D4 Monetization leak = GGG can safely push POE 2 to 2026 without any worry at all
" Yes, and very strongly, actually. In short, I don't like being forced to pay for things. To elaborate, I don't mind spending money on games, not at all actually, and PoE happens to be the game I've spent on the most (or roughly, ties with BDO). Still not much, like low hundreds of dollars, which is very little for the amount of time I've played and spent around the game, but I've got my family to spend my money for me. That PoE is around the top is especially ironic because I play a lot of gacha games, like AFKArena and Summoners War, and also games like Lost Ark and BDO. But back to the topic - why is the box price a problem for me? Because that's a strong tell that the game won't really be updated. I've been playing the grandfather of gacha games, Summoners War, for over seven years now, and that game was as fun to play today when I had a bad case of diarrhea after lunch as it was seven years ago. The game is incomparable in terms of content to what it was back then, has constantly running events that get refreshed every two or so weeks, has a very alive esports scene that's fun to follow, just got a large update I'm genuinely excited for, and it's a game in which I've got easily the longest time played in total (commuting to work + sitting on the toilet really adds up over 7 years). Now, where are all the dozens, maybe hundreds, of games for which I paid a box price? Dead. They may have been fun for a while, but then the content ran out, and not a single one of them got meaningfully updated. And those that aren't completely dead, are a wasteland devastated by nearly infinite content drought and have a subscription to ensure I don't return to them for new patches (I'm looking at you WoW and FFXIV). So, that D4 will have a pseudo-subscription (battlepass) and cash shop with cosmetics doesn't bother me in the slightest, but the box price is a huge red flag. " Defend? You are the one that said people just tolerate the game and dont actually like it. That's totally made up conjecture. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

" So you are telling me they love P2W games and they play them because money can give them advantage but they dont acutally spend money on them... for unknown reason? Thats some nice twisted logic. " Correction, it reached 30M downloads already. Last edited by Aynix#7757 on Aug 15, 2022, 3:07:04 PM

" So you want me to believe you only play F2P monetized games? That you dont buy full priced AAA games? Really? "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

" Whats so suprising in it? A lot of people do that. |

" Yes it happens all the time. Lost Ark is one example. Plenty of people play that w/o spending real money. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." - Abraham Lincoln Last edited by DarthSki44#6905 on Aug 15, 2022, 3:12:14 PM

" Oh, I've bought a lot of them over the years, yet most have left me with a sour aftertaste. So, let's just say I'm using other methods to play B2P games, mentioninig of which would probably get the post deleted. | |
" didint lost ark lost 80% player base when they started banning bots :D |

" Actually, yes - P2W, generally, affects the competitive aspect of the game. But a lot of people, like me, know they will never be competitive because they don't have the time for that. Whether others are ahead of me because they can invest more time into the game or because they spend money on it or both really makes no difference to me - I won't ever be competitive in a game until I retire, and I've made peace with that. But the P2W pays for the game's development, for the updates I will be getting as I play the game, as evidenced by which of the games I've liked are dead and which aren't. |
