Yes it happens all the time. Lost Ark is one example. Plenty of people play that w/o spending real money.

And you think those people play Lost ARk because love P2W, not because they love the game? Are you for real?
Ask ANY of those milion playes that play Lost Ark if they would preffer if Lost Ark wasnt P2W. Guess what will they answer you...

Watched the video linked in the OP, and was pleasantly surprised. Base $$ price, and afterwards only cosmetic microtransactions? Sounds fine to me.

Of course, we don't know what's actually going to happen until it launches, and we don't know what might be in store years down the road, but based on the "leaked D4 monetization plans" so far, it seems perfectly reasonable. Not sure what the big deal is.

When it comes to "new Blizzard" it wont take years. Probably not even months. I give it weeks before they will go on a "rampage" and they will do everything they can to milk everyone dry.

There really easy a simple solution to this..

Stop playing Blizzard games...every person who leaves , even if he paid or not to Blizzard is probably a salary that they cannot afford to pay...

I know that people think that you cannot have spring with just a flower but it's how it starts really.

Blizzard over the years had 0 competitors or at least none that could step forward up to the game, and could do whatever they want. They know consumers will consume, numbers have showed it...They are going by the rule that dogs bark and horses march...

Just stop playing their games, find something else and the will remain just a bad dream, at least for you...

Expect anything from a so called AAA company to be littered with ways to make you pay extra.

Even if it's all cosmetic I still have a problem with a 60$ (maybe 70$ by that point since the industry is pushing hard for that) game trying to "beg" for more. If the game is good, I can simply ignore the mtx (I have enough self control....*looks nervously under the forum avatar) and enjoy the game for a play through at least.

The real problem is that we all know it'll have exp boosts and the like, and that battle pass won't be cosmetic, I guarantee it.

Just two days ago wanted to make a smirky comment about how after Diablo: Immortal fiasco Diablo 4 will very likely be just as sheitty, but I felt Diablo fans/PoE haters will eat me alive. And now this. Pure comedy.

I remember listening to Ion describe the new WoW expansion and the way he described it sounded like a happy meal order at McDonald's.

When you're on the outside looking in for a couple years the glaringly obvious is hard not to see. The corporate world is death for creativity and talent. I just tell myself this is the same company that FOMO'd the AH mount at the exact time people were getting stimmy checks. Very scumbag stuff.

Blizz could triple those prices and the fanboys will still throw money at it, no matter the quality of game. A lost opportunity.

POE is a much better model, pay <$60 on stash tabs and your done. I've bought supporter packs because 100's of hours of gameplay and quarterly expansions are worth paying money for. Cosmetic items though I have zero interest in.

Uhm, you realize the leak does say "no p2w only cosmetic items"
I really do not know how that fits well in to your narrative.

There is not even mention of stash space or character slots yet, so currently what we know is better system than PoE has.
Sure we can put on tinfoil hat and say "levels will be 50 dollars per 10 levels, item upgrades will be 1000 dollars each etc..."
But all we know now is "reasonable not p2w monetization" and that is not ammo for haters at all

It will be sheitty because they have no talent(anyone talented left long time ago, even the star-craft devs are gone and made their own company) no vision, relly on outdated tech, have very negative record of upkeeping games(people rather play the old version in many cases, like d2 or vanilla wow)

They lost any moral ground with diablo immortal, china simping, banning people unjustly, and the sexual harassment stuff.

If blizzard starts to sell jackets made of real human skin and promotes animal torture, the repuration will not even go down at this point because it already reached 0.

If I had any hopes for activision to git gud, that hope was lost in last 3 years. And I do not plan to support them with my money even if d4 vanilla will be "decent"
