this is a big reason why i grew tired of the game when i did. hell i don't even remember when that was.
but i loved making budget builds. figuring out what would work before league start, playing one build, and eventually building it up to a point where it could take on all content throughout the league.
as you say, this became less and less available. but this was my favourite way to play, and my favourite builds came out of it....mostly because they were of my creation
i think the most successful one by far was Toxic Rain in delve and betrayal league, because TR was just busted back then for sure.
next was probably my ignite fireball trickster build around the heist eras. suuuuuper powerful. easily cleared all content, super cheap, very tanky

How can you say they were only good at low budget? Have you actually seen a high budget minion build? Minions will be fine as usual. Wait till the 5heads crack the code and then you can go back to copying them.

Kind of the reason minions was good imho.
You didn't need someone to tell you how to make your build. You could do it on your own. It was unique in that way, it was a great build for newbies to play and also good for people that just didnt want to screw around with POB and other third party crap.
Sometimes a person just wants to plug and play, and that should be possible. Needing 23010941 extrnal programs or a degree to play a game is pathetic.

Correction. You never did Uber Bosses on low budget Skeleton Mages. Just look at my profile - Exarch, Maven and Eater are still a struggle even at this point (other 4 are weaker).

Yeah, it's annoying that GGG slowly but sutely nerfs base level of every build. I don't understand it. Do they want every build to suck without good gear? That is such an awful direction to take.
I too miss simplier times.

I'm not sure obviously, but I think I can infer that the process of crafting items, and really min/maxing your builds is tied to player in-game time.
They have already stated that their monetization maximizes, and financial conversion rates increases once players hit maps.
So I think they want to extend this time as long as possible. It sorta makes sense, but the very big issue(s) I see is that by making the progression to this point feel much worse, the percentage of players that even gets to maps or well into maps is lower. In addition crafting, imo, doesnt have the same feeling as looting / finding itmes. GGG is getting farther away from that and doubling down on crafting. It's an interesting direction to take, but its clear they much prefer players making stuff, than finding stuff.
Edit: Also why this line in then Manifesto regarding Minion items is getting meme'd so hard.

That was exactly my point, which you missed entirely. If you were able to clear Ubers on LOW BUDGET no shit the build got nerfed hard. Because that shouldnt be even possible.
No build with low investment should be able to clear uber bosses which is peak content meant for 0.1%

Well, if he is struggling with this amount of investment its player fault at this point. Pretty sure his build reached more than enough DPS to kill all Ubers (except Exarch, this fight is bs)

dude 20 ex isnt "low budget" LMAO with 20 ex investment all the meta builds could trash all content with ease
