It seems like the time to remove the resist penalty and xp on death

Thanks for the comments. To me, it feels like reaching level 100 is not a chase goal. Not just because I can pay for rotas or whatever, but because the game does not make high level characters important. Gear is a more meaningful chase goal, right now the level requirements for fear just do not matter when mapping. Even boss clears are more meaningful.

Even though it would be strange having a lot more level 100 chars or having a few items clear 75 resist requirements, I think it would be better for players who stay in the league. It would help the game feel a little less stale. Reducing resist requirements opens up a lot more options, while not technically nerfing or buffing players a whole lot.

Cast on death people clear the game now. So. If ggg wants to do anything about it they can. Xp or resists just don't matter to those players.

By the way huge shoutout to vmt80 and echothesis. Big funny energy.

Counterquestion - why do YOU care?

Why do YOU want to take away the fun from people that enjoy the grind, enjoy putting the time in and like that type of progression or players that prefer how this game punishes them for making mistakes.
Why does it have to cater to YOU in every aspect and every mechanic and only YOU when it already has an estabilished type of players? Sounds pretty entitled to me tbh.

we arent asking to remove the grind. 100 still takes a lot of xp. we just dont want what we've earned taken away.

and as to 'players that prefer the game to punish mistakes' - we have a mode for that. its called hardcore.


oh, you dont want to be punished *that* much, you think its excessive? well, i dont want to be punished 10% of my current xp, i think its excessive.

I don't think it's excessive at all. I am 100% fine with hardcore and that's why I play games like ToME4 but my friends do not play hardcore in PoE and I prefer playing multiple other games instead of spending the additional time on hardcore.

That being said, you don't see me asking the devs to change hardcore to having 3 lifes or something similar because of my preferences.

Actually that's a good question.

I suspect removing the XP penalty would improve player retention. I have a couple of friends that quit playing PoE when they found out about the XP penalty. Their argument was that they had earned those experience points and PoE was taking away something that they had earned.

Also, I suspect that it may encourage more people to play longer.
