torchlight 2 has a beta weekend

Still playing this beta. Mine lasts until the 24th.

So far I have to say it's a major improvement over Torchlight 1. The graphics are more detailed and better in every way.

There's virtually no server lag to speak of, unlike some other major important game everybody's talking about.

The combat is fun. The skill tree doesn't insult my intelligence just by existing (too much...).

The items make me want more items, but I kind of miss inventory tetris.

So many pet choices. Hope they add more. Pets have more functions now than in Torchlight 1, but I had hoped for more specific and more customization. Sort of like a side character to itemize.

This game is so much like D3 to me, yet so much smoother an experience, I think I would rather just play this and PoE. D3 has so many problems even after launch compared to this game. At least I know I won't have to actually defend my hobby when it comes to T2.

Btw, I've only reached past Mordrox with my Embermage on Veteran Hardcore difficulty. With my chain-fire freeze gattling gun style kiting it was pretty easy. There does seem to be a lot of skeletons but that's the same for every arpg... look at D3... look at PoE... Veteran is the second hardest difficulty with Elite being the hardest. I recommend any previous arpg players to just skip to Elite Hardcore if you're really looking for a challenge. I doubt it's anywhere near Inferno frustrating, but it is Torchlight.

Good item drops ARE really frequent, with set and unique items every 30 minutes or so... Might be a problem. I'm not sure at this point though. They don't seem that good tbh and aren't so uber epic that I can smash my way through all enemies. In Torchlight 1 uniques and set items were waaaayyy rarer.

i've played the beta a bit... during a "server down" of D3, i was bored to be honest, i 've played through the first dungeon, well... lvling was too fast, items drop was too good and it didnt feel that i've actualy have tried to earn them and all this skeletons in the dungeon, opening the little tomb cases will always a skeleton pop out, no excitement.

surely its a vast improvement from TL but for me is boring.

Skeletons are only in first 3 dungeons, after that, there are no more skeleton If i remember good.
Elite is very hard on the end of act because you can get 1 shot very fast so I do not advice people that did not played the game to play on HC elite on their first playthrough.

Also elite is not inferno like in d3, it is like normal in d3 =). You didn't see inferno yet in TL 2 because you need to complete the game as same as d3 to get to last difficulty.

Generally completed the game with 5 different characters and can say that the game will be epic. Cant wait for release.

lol... you were right... Grell's jumping slam killed me in one hit on Elite

They should have an introduction animation before a boss fight. I stupidly went up to the water monster thingy and was like, hey that looks cool, bam, something jumps up and all these zombie things appear and my pet is down to 10% health.
