Whats the point of purposefully frustrating & annoying mechanics

The problem is not dying; things that can kill you no matter what makes for some nice action trying to avoid them. Take them out and there will be more boredom.

The problem, that has been pointed ad infinitum here, is the death experience penalty.

When people become stuck because of it, unable to level up or find the equipment they need to improve the build; they sometimes play lower tier maps, discover how much it is slow and boring to do so and leave (you don't find items to improve your build in low-tier maps); or leave in a rage for having died like that and having lost experience again.

People want to feel always advancing, like their playtime is worth something. Death experience penalty makes you wonder why you are wasting your time for nothing. Or less than nothing.
majority of players die all the time

but truth is, there are ways to build yourself tanky enough while being able to lash out big dps. i mean just look at streamers.

they obviously spend a lot of time on this game, so they are expected to succeed.

casuals are expected to suffer, this is not tied to just poe but any pro game, work and related.

people who spend more time, passion into anything are bound to do better.
`Spent 2 mirrors on my build, but I'm only Level 98.` LOL
`From just quick sweep of your characters, toxic rain, golems .. sure, non meta... sure.` LOL
`What are divs?`
I have to agree some just serve no purpose. Like vines? Being a melee range build is already punishing enough to get a bunch of stuff on you that makes you a complete punching bag.

Throw a few things that block your vision and it's required of you to have great reactions in order to avoid dying or a meta build that stomps everything within seconds.
im in support for this game to be as punishing as it can be, what im not in support of is bad, boring, cheap rewards.

imagine doin sim.... to get all the low value stuff....

voices1 and voices3 should be strictly simulacrum only, not div cards. should remove luminous trove.. and might as well remove nurses, doctors, patients also. make headhunter strictly nemesis only.

I get HH buffs, suddenly i cannot move due to grasping vines. flamebloods chase me down, dash on cooldown. i manage to dash away, straight onto a pile of bloodline on-death effects that oneshot me through any amount of defence.

Every time this sort of stuff happens it just frustrates me to the point where i don't want to play anymore.

I get that the devs designed themselves into a corner here when characters can kill multiple screens per second and some how "need to kill the player". but this type of "killing the player" is just plain and simple lazy, uninspired and ultimately bad for the game. People don't know what killed them, there is nothing to learn, you just get punished for no reason (atleast thats how it appears to most). People get frustrated, quit the game and play something else.

Does the lead designer want people to quit or whats the deal with keeping and introducing more and more of these types of 'randomly kill player fast' mechanics ?

..the thing is... nolifers and streamers do have enough time to invest enough time into this game to be supergood. See the achievements, many of them are done by 1% or less of the playerbase only. I feel the same and i agree with you. And the league is done for me...

For people with a normal amount of time, due to reallife and/or job/school whatever... LastEpoch fits much better...

most of those are fine only grasping vines I think is a bit sketch for the same reason the delirium 95% slow zones are sketch.

Its flavour, your basically asking why monsters do anything lmao if anything they already do too little.

However the idea that you get killed for no reason by these really isn't the case, you can build around them and its pretty simple to do so but for most players the build cost isn't worth it vs an occasional portal.

You are right that GGG designed themselves into a corner on this one though

You say you could build around it all. But tell the people how to build around those pack of skeletons throwing fireballs ? or those cows throwing bolt lightning things ?

Max res at 85% -
spell suppress at 93% -
chance to block attack around 50% -
evasion around 80-90% -
physical damage reduction about 70% -
immune to all elemental ailments
5.5k life -
50% reduced curse effect -
probably even have reduced damage in there including elemental % on the pantheon

and yet, 2 bolts can kill you ! yeah sure you can dodge them yourself which is fine. But what damage is it even doing. Last thing i can think of is the need to have life regen over 1000 minimum to withstand the blows somewhat

Just looked up your profile.
You have 75% max res, not 85%.
You got 75% spell supression, not 93%.
0% spell block. You also have no protection against critical strikes.

So if you get oneshot by a Fireball from a skeleton. It's probably safe to assume that it might have been an Elemental crit that went through your spell suppression. You got 54k EHP. People in this thread are right. You can build around everything and be tanky. Your build is squishy and you can solve it by getting defensive layers.

There's a reason why people are able to literally build immortal builds.
Your build is not tanky at all and it has glaring weaknesses that opens you up to oneshots.

While the game does have some stupid crap, it's not like you're unable to build around it. Your build can make alot of changes to actually become tanky.
But instead you come here and say it's impossible with fabricated statsof your own character.

read the thread and not just first page if you want to reply.

Then ppl need to play safer maps. I watch a lot HC SSF streamers in races to 100 and they are not doing crazy shit like triple beyond or a lot of deli. They run basic alc and go maps with safe mods on them plus build tanks ofc. Game is meant to kill you because of this competitive space in the HC scene. Play accordingly if you want to level. Yes it's mind numbingly boring running basic T16 maps and maybe they should fix death penalty for SC but there are reasons for that too like so everyone doesnt just zerg it and build glass cannons.

Yeah, I don't like those corpse explosions around strongboxes. I keep dying to them over and over.
Gutting Gameplay Gradually
Frustrating and annoying mechanics are fine...

If you can actually see them.

I would agree with that one, if the game felt rewarding doing unrolled maps.

The game has too many requirements to do basic things now. On one hand options are great but being forced into attributes, resists, immunity and so on feels like too much work so why bother when you die anyway to something.
