Lost Ark is POE Killer
" I have 2 problems with this. Every game has eventually had the meta over take it. The best build or the correct path. Given that the game is made with the intent of playing with people; I'm inclined to believe that people are going to be far more prone to following the meta and are less inclined to risk a 10-20 minute(I have no idea how long fights are late in the game) run to have you experiment with some sort of wacky or new idea. So please pick build X from the skill tree, make sure you have these gem skills, and load up these cards. Also while I'm here, people are talking about Stash tabs in PoE as pay to win again. Are we going to just ignore LA's limited Card collection because we can buy it with gold? I had to ask about how cards and books work because that was weird to see it split apart and learned that thsi collected is limited till you pay up. We can argue about how much more or less that's pay to win, but it feels like being told to either cough up a fiver or put in more grind because the Fallout Bobble Hits cap at 5 and of course you WANT the whole collection riiiiiiiiiiight? |

the card limit is completely inconsequential
99% of the time you only care about 6 cards, the ones you equip, everything else can be thrown away especially the cards that have 0 set bonuses. the other 1% is for book collection which only requires you to own the card at any point in time, aka you can collect the card and then throw it away and still get the book bonuses |

" To me that just makes the system worse. Already just going "You will use only these cards, forget even trying to get the other cards". I have no incentive but to get the meta cards. And it still confuses me how books work compare to cards, like they seem and sound like the same thing but they aren't but still use the scame cards to upgrade and get stronger? How can I upgrade cards for books if I don't actually have the cards? Maybe I'm over thinking it but they never really explained the card/book system well in game. I'm still expecting what should be a side grade collectable to just be worn down to "Here's the 3 set to use, pick one." |

" there really isnt a meta card set, its just that you can only equip 6 at a time. some sets work better against some content better than others. but the card limit can hold way more than the amount you will ever need. eg. the card set bonuses that make you take reduced ele dmg is good against elemental bosses and the ones that reduce phys damage is better for phys bosses, or cards that cut dmg when youre low on hp is good if youre not good at dodging mechanics |

Well I didn't dig in deep into the Card system yet, but as far as I understand it...
There's different Cards with Set boni, but not every Card belongs to a Set. For the Card Decks, u want to set up as many good Set boni as u can get. That's been figured out by ppl in Korea and Russia already, so we know what the best Sets/Cards to use for every character are. The Books however consist of every Card in the game. Every Card belongs to one book and if u get all cards from a book, u'll get a miniscule bonus, like +1 of a secondary stat. (which is nothing compared to the hundreds u get from one piece of gear) If u level up the cards from a book (awakening), u can get another miniscule bonus which might add up in the end, but it's something like +0,07% Bonus vs. Insects ect. So basically, the Card deck system gives a pretty decent amount of power if u get all the cards for ur perfect deck and u don't need to increase ur catalog whatsoever for it. If u want to get everything possible tho, u'll have to collect all the cards for the books and therefor u'll need the maximum catalog. But what u'll get in the end, might not be more than... like 2% more damage, if at all? /edit: like yamface said, there's also specific card sets for specific occasions, like resistances against certain elements. " This fascinates me - LA is a strongly P2W game, never pretended to be anything else, and somehow the most bitched-about aspect is a card collection storage extension, which is purchasable via a farmable currency... like, wtf O.o | |
as far as the p2w stuff goes imo the 2 biggest ones is:
1. you can buy this aura that repairs your gear mid-dungeon 2. you can buy blue crystals that you can use to buy extra crafting mats the one that repairs gear mid dungeon is SO massive, its borderline trolling if you dont have that in super late endgame where the abyssal dungeons are legit hard at least they let you buy these things with ingame gold too. funnily enough if youre good at the market stuff in poe, youll probably be good at it in lost ark too. im basically casually farming up gold and buying the p2w crystals from the profits. still spent $0 on that game, didnt even break into the free p2w crystals you got when you created a new account |

" LOL Greetings to your obviously far far away galaxy foreigner! NO one will come to POE if leaving LostArk Thats like swapping from automated eletro drive to a freaking coal-train Once you tell em they need at least 8 external programs websites and tools to play POE you will see them run away like usain bolt |

Got it. So the key to keeping idiots away from PoE is to lie to them.

" I mean there's a ton of crossover, I'd be unsurprised if after the current "damage" to POE's playebase POE doesn't actually get new players from Lost Ark when things calm down and some of those LA players hear about this other ARPG with more gritty style and little to no MMO amusement park clutter. Also streamers will ofc go back to POE for new leagues and new features because LA will still be there. Many POE streamers are main'ing LA right now even ones who profess to hate LA are playing it some and switching back and forth (Alk for example) or hate aspects of it. Personally from my perspective LA's combat is so good and the time to live visual clarity and just overall game balance is so much better in LA that despite REALLY HATING its story/anime tropes and its god aweful leveling (until around lvl 27ish when it starts to actually get pretty good) I'm hooked... I've actually done a 180 on LA I went from slogging through the levelings/story quitting from cringe and noping out from the sheer MMO'yness (which can be overwelming at time) to actually digging the game despite those things... I'm kinda shocked at how much I've 180'ed. But I'm betting I'll be playing POE again (swaping back and forth probably) in a few weeks when the new shine wears off and GGG puts hard mode in (I have a hunch they'll do that to try and pull people back) I'll probably go back and forth and every time I'm going to feel bad when POE's dog shit combat pacing, dogshit time to live, dogshit visual clarity/Signaling all conspire to overshadow the 90% of the game that I really like. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.
