POE Heading to D3 Land...please reconsider

A good post, so well written I abandoned my similar post.
Instead I'll just lamely go: +1

The game is unrewarding, trading is abhorrent (Let's spam WTS for an hour), Solo players are gimped.

and I will do the same thing. +1 to OP.

time to keep my posts short. tired of fighting-off trolls and self-proclaimed "elitists".

maybe GGG would finally listen since OP is a Closed Beta player and supporter, and I'm not. not yet.

Shadow: That was fun
Wait, wait, wait, you are afraid that this game will become like Diablo 3, and no one noticed that PoE already LIKE D3 because it's got an always on connection.

But in general this game is an unprofessional mess.
It is amazing how both sides of the fence have agreed on this. Unlike so many other threads, what we're seeing here is not stark polarity but acknowledgment of a common issue from many perspectives, many different types of POE player.

This is a good feedback thread -- even WITH the incendiary title invoking That Other Game.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Only problem is I'm losing all hope of reverting back to how things were and I've been very positive the last few months. I'm sure other people aren't as forgiving.
Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th
Finished 18th in Torment/Bloodline 1mo Race - peaked at 9th

I wouldn't say that is exactly like D3, but well, they have to change things to make the game much more rewarding. I'm having fun testing builds, leveling alts until merciless and so on, but when I reach maps with 2 of my characters I started to see the things that most people complains.

Currency drops are really bad, making them just usable on endgame best items and stashing just for trading, so instead of removing gold from the game, currency is a replacement when they should be used mostly for crafting, another unrewarding system where RNG is overused. This wouldn't be a problem if currency drops much more.

The first step is make things less valuable, so we don't feel scammed when we use them. How? Drop. See alterations as an example. I can roll 20 of them without a problem, not feeling like I'm doing something wrong and I'm losing my progress even if I'm not success. How we will trade and sustain an economy? Items, we will trade items for items, or we won't trade at all, if we want an economy simulator we should play another game, but at the current state of the game it won't last much longer because the game feels really underrewarding.

I concur with first two posts. Exactly my feelings at the moment too. I like playing solo. I like rolling alts. Drop rates are terrible now compared to closed beta and once I get to level 50ish on my experimental builds I struggle to find enough decent items to continue. All drops now are so much rarer it's ridiculous. Seriously, orb of alchemy drops at least half as much as in CB.

The self found league would be good. No trading and actually bearable drop rates.
In two steps:
- The game requires far too good gear at higher levels, even as early as mid-cruel for some builds. This means that every drop that isn't god-awesome is just going to be vendored.
- I have little love for balancing the game around stacking iir/iiq to see a decent amount of drops. I wouldn't have a problem with global iir/iiq increasing and iir/iiq sources decreasing/becoming slightly less effective.

I don't think I'd like to see guaranteed drops of any kind (such as "every rare drops a rare"). I also know that uniques will become ever more prevalent as more uniques are added into the game for more base types.

New types of items would also be interesting, though that's a pretty heinous design and balance undertaking. Charms and sets aren't particularly good. Runes (to put in empty sockets) could be done, but would be a bugbear to balance (and it enforces the "min/max a single 6L" even more than it is currently). I'm sure GGG can come up with better ideas here than I could.

Yeah, there are a lot of voices that claim for this kind of league, permanent. I would play there instead of default, and I think a lot of people will do also.

So today I had the Maelstrom of Chaos drop. My buddy and I were pretty excited, so we went through, spent the 20 chisels it takes to get a unique map all the way to 20q, the roll on our was pretty low, and we spent a divine to reroll the rarity mod into something more respectable. We reconfigured our gear to get even more rarity on top of it, at the cost of survivability. We had a more precarious, slow progression through the map because our gear was suboptimal and geared more towards magic finding.

And all that dropped was a ton of junk rares. There wasn't a single one in the map that was worth keeping. Our reward for grinding through maps just to find the map, 20 chisels, and a divine was approximately 15 alterations and 1 alch through alchemy shards.

Good game, GGG. That was clearly a fair exchange.

ETA: Another friend and I had nearly an identical experience in Vaults of Atziri. Screens fulls of junk, vendored rares and nothing of value. Even your cherry on top rewards in the game are hardly cherries on top.
