HALF of playerbase has quit in 1 WEEK
" They've had bad leagues financially and Chris has stated they can't afford to have more than one of them in any given year. |

A huge part of poor retention and ppl leaving this game in DROVES is the 10 acts. Remove the need to progress thru them and you will have more players reaching the atlas.
I made it to act 7 this league, and that's where i draw my line now, i just can't go further, no matter what.

" Can't see why the acts would deter so many people. New players have no idea of mapping, for them the story is fresh, they get frequent gear upgrades and skill points, feeling like progress. Veteran players complete the acts in a matter of hours, reaching maps and playing on maps. Pro players reach endgame in a matter of hours and after two days have done everything in the game. People who struggle during the acts would leave just the same if they were thrown directly into maps. People who really take long for the acts (and not because they're struggling but because they don't play much) are perhaps the only people who might find completing the acts instead of just running one or two maps in one session too tedious. Just IMO. Bird lover of Wraeclast

I haven't played since 3.13, after I read about the harvest nerfs I quit and was done. I figured I'd come back and give this league a try. I've only played ~6 league launches or so, this was by far the best launch I have played. I have to say well done GGG there.
Now that I'm into late game. I've beat the 4 new bosses, I haven't done uber elder or Maven yet, I don't know if I will, I just miss the old Harvest. With the old Harvest mechanics there was always a way to make your gear better and feel like you were improving. Now sure, I can grind maps over and over again for currency but do I really want to. I think I'm going to take a break, I'll probably come back and play some more, the new changes are fun, but Harvest used to be great and I don't know if there is anything GGG can do to recreate that experience aside from just brining it back |

It's been mentioned in this thread before but I thought I'd elaborate on it: Steam player numbers are NOT indicative. A GREAT many players abandoned the Steam client around 3.0 when it became obvious that even the smallest patches would take hours because of how the game patched on Steam. Couple that with the fact the game itself will barely run at all through the Steam client without an SSD and I suspect probably 75% of players use the standalone client.

" Your suspicion is off - by GGG's own announcement, the launch peak was 270k concurrent players (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3233159) and by steam charts, the steam peak was 158k players (https://steamcharts.com/app/238960#6m), so about 58.5% of players use steam, and 41.5% of players use standalone client. The numbers are perfectly consistent with Scourge launch numbers, so they are rather solid. | |
" Thanks for clarifying that! So going by that, if the Steam player peaks on weekends average around 80k, then the total numbers re probably somewhere around 110-120k? IMO still not bad for an almost ten year old game. There Is No God But Kuduku And Le Toucan Is His Messenger. " Compare to what? CANDY CRUSH? Or Top 10 most popular video games? |
|
" Not really in comparison to anything at all. PoE is PoE. It's not Candy Crush, Fortnite, World of Warcraft or Call of Duty. Regardless of genre, ANY ten year old game still regularly having over 100k players online at one time is pretty good. I bet you anything Quake II (the single best game ever made) didn't have that many simultaneous players by its tenth birthday. There Is No God But Kuduku And Le Toucan Is His Messenger. " Most players probably don't make more than 1 or 2 builds a league. Even if GGG did allow us to skip the story, it would only ever be for subsequent characters. Which means they'd only see the benefit on their second character, if they made one. For the majority of players, this wouldn't make much difference. The only people who would benefit a lot from it are the minority of alt-holics. |
