Maven's Invitation: The Elderslayers and boss killing at all
Dont wanna be THAT guy,
but my build deals around 1.2 mil dps, with a god awful uptime when i am not on the boss and doing stuff. and i managed to kill every invitation except for the feared deathless... " sry, but this is just frustration talking, instead of accepting failure you blame the concept, design, execution, the game. it is challenging, but it is also passable. and just like in real life, you gotta fall to learn how to get up and avoid falling again. awareness and knowing how to adapt to the fight is the key. (like, dont use dash or shield charge, use flame dash instead) The way you make it sound to me is, that you wanna basically have a game, where you could league start with ED/C and kill all content with ease. from my very own perspective, i enjoy that fight, and even when maven releases them all at the same time, this fight is more than "passable" IF you know what you are doing and when you have to do what you have to do. Its a shame that most of invitation challenges boil down to being dps checks, because you cannot rely on your skill or suitability against stuff like feared or conquerors, you will be eventually overwhelmed if you don't kill at least one boss before next batch spawns in. I really wish endgame bosses were more like Sirus, where even with low dps char you can eventually kill him (Yes, it will take a while) but at least 99% of your screen won't be covered by degen or some other stuff that bricks your boss fight.
After completing invitations I don't really feel like I achieved something great, I only feel relief that I don't have to do them any more. Elder/Shaper guardian might be fine but other invitations just feel really lame to me. |

gearing properly and knowing the fights is not just a dps check, it is knowledge... which is considerable as skill...
those invitations are aspirational content after all, so you cant expect a 10ex investment build to one shot the bosses on spawn... |

" Interesting opinion. By the way, I still managed to beat this invitation, only because Baran appeared first and I was able to kill him before the others appeared. Fighting knowledge? Oh yes, if I see that the Baran is alive and managed to create tiles, then you can tap logout. It does not require a skill here. You can't act strategically just because the floor of the arena is occupied by degen, which also drains mana. And in the rest of the arena, Veritania's frozen field, Drox's fists, and 10 Al-Hezmin's snakes await. So invites are ONLY a dps check. Not enough = lost. my hideouts - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3228515

" Nope. This guy beats the Elder Slayer afk with a 1 link Tempest Shield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI0tC1Yk6Zo You can stack enough defenses to make this fight a total joke, if you wanted to. But lets be honest: Most players in SC, including myself, ignore defense in favor of dps and then get their butts whooped if they cant outright delete tough bosses. |

" Did I understand your message correctly? Instead of 90% damage and 10% defense (glasscannon), you suggest collecting 1% damage and 99% defense (zdps doll). Really? Do I have to spend 20 hours leveling and gearing a character for one invitation that is horribly balanced? Or am I obligated to play meta broken builds? I want to play the game with builds that I like and not those that cannot be changed for 60% of the equipment (like the armor stacker you threw off from the Aegis Aurora) I want to play and play with balanced builds. 50% damage 50% defense. And it's fun. Until the Archnemesis mechanic appears or such invitations that simply cause astronomical damage and have inadequate defenses, which even a build with 100k dps cannot kill (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR2235etCbY). my hideouts - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3228515

" You might want to actually watch the video. It's definitely not a zdps build (from his time to kill Sirus I'd say he's probably in the 4M-5M range), it just has a lot of defense. |

" I watched the video, very cool wow. But the question remains relevant. In a game with almost infinite build create potential, should I only play three builds that use mechanics that allow both damage and survivability to stack at the same time? Int Stacker, Armor Stacker, and Mana Stacker (before the nerf that killed the archetype). my hideouts - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3228515 Last edited by moonretealoud#1487 on Mar 2, 2022, 5:04:16 AM

" No you didnt. Keyphrase was "if you wanted to". You can go for a glasscannon but then you cant complain about dying, if your dps arent good enough to delete everything on sight. You can also go for a zDPS approach and sit there for 30 mins slowly tickling bosses to death. Or you could go for a balanced approach - its totally up to you. My point was and still is: You deal with the consequences of the choices you made. Thats the whole point of the game. What you cant do is making choices and then blame others (in this case the devs) for the consequences following suit. If you really want this one atlas passive point, do what you need to do to get it or simply ignore it exists. It doesnt matter anyways in the grand scheme of things. |

" The easiest way is to say "hey, it's your own fault, look for mistakes." And it's hard to accept that there are moments in the game that simply should not exist, or should be weakened. Or they should give a big reward. And AGAIN I bring up the issue that I, in order to defeat this Invitation, I must either play with a specific build, or ignore until the end of the league, when I destroy this Invitation with a build for 10 mirrors. This is a complete bullshit. The bosses are very easy as solo bosses, and almost impossiple together, simply because they were created as solo bosses. And it's not my fault, not my problem that there is this "fly in the ointment" that can completely kill the desire to play, simply because there is no safe zone, and the arena is constantly at least half occupied by degen. It's not my fault, not my desire to play interesting builds that, unfortunately, do not use the broken mechanics of Life/ES recovery when blocking. It's not my fault that not all builds can afford 90% of all resists and 90% of physical reduction. It's not my fault that the Great Weakening made thousands of builds weak and unable to develop adequate damage, unlike skills with projectiles, overlaps. It's not my fault that GGG are so obsessed with hardcore that they completely forgot about being interesting. my hideouts - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3228515
