why do ppl play SSF?

lewt is fine. Only thing I'd like to see is more cards or bosses which carry the unique not yet carded/bossed. Say like One With Nothing jewel Totally random and super rare. OTOH you can farm Unatrual Insticts or Inspired learning Jewels. Thats cool.

BTW does anyone know what's going to happen with "Trash to Treasure" prophecy once they delete Prophecy? Seems like that's only way to get some shaper/elder influenced unique.

It is fun.
Endless Delve is bad example of why it is fun.
~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.
Obvious answer: because I can buy whatever I want in real life -- mainly because I don't want much but the reasoning stands. It might be an illusion but an item for which I pay the proverbial iron price just holds more value for me. And since we all of us have to pay the gold price in real life, I see no point in doing it in fantasy land.

Second reason: PoE's trade system is fucking awful. Feel free to tell yourself it's not but compared to literally any other online game I've played where trading is a thing, it's just so unappealing. But when I do trade in any game it's to get what I want asap, not to roleplay a crypto cowboy.

Third reason: it's just how ARPGs started and thus will always be how I personally chase that dragon. Trading ruined D1 for me because duping was so easy and I knew in D2 it'd be even worse sooner or later.

Now had you told me that trading would be expected of Exiles beyond paddling about the shallow end of the pool AND that we were never getting a proper trading system that actively prevented scamming instead of passively encouraging it, GGG would very likely have had one fewer Rulers, and Wraeclast would be Drop Bear and talking sword free.

I hate it that much.

And it's why I play arpgs that aren't balanced around trade.

Ie any arpg but PoE.

Ironically D3 WAS balanced around using the AH for a while there and I despised that too. Yet again I am left wondering at how D3 came out so poorly but for the most part found its stride, while PoE roared out of the gates, stumbled a bit, and then evolved a bunch of new limbs -- few of which actually helped stabilise its gait.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

That's urban legend that D3 was designed around AH. Wyatt Cheng has debunked this many times. https://massivelyop.com/2021/10/14/diablo-iiis-wyatt-cheng-claims-the-games-tuning-wasnt-based-on-the-real-money-auction-house/

We didnt even have AH when I beat game when it came out. D3 SSF then was quite a bit easier than PoE SSF today IMO. My metric is beat all boss. I've only done that in a few leagues and it takes me all three months. Took two weeks in D3.

SSF is the pure version of PoE. No RTM, no bots, no cheats, no underhand trade, no parties controlling the economy.

SSF is the true way.

It can't be debunked because nobody would believe them. The tuning was extremely stupid though I can't really think of worse. Maybe if GGG kept Sirus rares in their original version ^^

Fun though in its own way. Personally I think the fact uniques were absolutely terrible is the strongest argument about them not designing around the AH, D3 didn't have anything like the depth of trade that 2 had you were just looking for rares with almost identical stats.
I'm glad the D3 AH tuning was debunked by someone who totally didn't have an agenda to debunk it.

My personal experience of early d3 though? Fuck all drops, selling junk (and not the elitist idea of uniques being vendor junk either -- whites and blues mostly), and then buying what I should have been looting, from the AH. Gosh that was so exciting.

PS AH not RMAH. If I had had ANY interest in the RMAH I wouldn't be here. Paying to win is much, much cheaper than supporting PoE. I whale a few gachas here and there and I'll never come close to what I threw into the NZ economy...

Thing is there was no AH for first month of the game. Chech wiki. Game came in may and AH in June. It was broke/delayed whatever and still ppl went to the end game, Mr diablo. It was hard to be sure. Blues were better than many legendary because itemization sucked but if was still done. I tend to take professionals at face value when they say things. Saves me from disasters.

Only certain classes got to endgame in D3 at release. The loot was messed up, and certain classes couldn't advance as a result (basically, you needed gear that dropped in Act 2 Hell mode to actually do Act 2 on Hell mode if you were Barbarian or another melee class)
I played for hours on end, and only managed to find one item that was a keeper, which was a caster item.
When I started playing ARPG's (Diablo 1)I got hooked on them for the exact thing you're complaining about: picking up items.

I want to play a game. For me ARPGs are about picking up items in anticipation of finding the ONE that will make you stronger, and repeat until satisfied.

If it's 1 thing I absolutely despise about POE is that GGG is stubborn in making the game around trade. Sure, trade is helpful, but turning a loot picking game into a market simulator is not fun.
