So apparently I had nothing better to do...

So while the percentage of peak players that PoE can keep playing for a prolonged period seems to be in decline, the opposite can be said for the absolute number of players.

And of course making a graph, inserting a linear regression and drawing any conclusions from that does probably not only make Shagsbeard cringe.
I am not much of a statistics expert, but with the general variation in the I'm not sure if these lines are statistically significant at all.

First of all, you are awesome. Thank you.

Second, my only real annoyance with Chris is that that player retention (and players starting the league) clearly reached an all time high when people could craft their own gear without trade. Harvest was core, but you didnt have to plant a dumb garden. This gave players agency, it let them guide their own progression.

Maybe one of the only things I agree with Shags on is that trading is not a particularly fun thing to base the game on. It does not feel rewarding to play a trade simulator.

So what does Chris do?

He freaks out that TFT is making the top 2% of players insanely powerful. His only fix is take the ability away from everyone across all power levels, as if people in SSF white maps using harvest was the problem.

Then we see the drop in players joining, and player retention.

Chris is wrong, and the numbers prove it. Harvest should have been tweaked (like you find better crafts in T16, not T11) and made things account bound, and his explanation against that makes zero sense.
I feel that one aspect often overlooked when assessing the current player performance of the game is the player experience.

I believe that one reason retention has been so poor is directly correlated to the fundamental changes in the base elements of the game since 3.15. Changes to skills and mana, changes to monster AI, changes to difficulty in Act 1, changes to flasks, etc.

3.15 implemented a whole load of changes that were just outright bad for players and they continue to persist today. GGG is either too proud to admit their error and roll them back, or is so disconnected from their playerbase that they still believe what they have done is good.

It just plain feels bad to play the game now.

I didn't play 3.15, the first league I've ever skipped and I am not enjoying 3.16 and will have finished by next weekend after I complete some personal goals. Usually I will play the league for a full 3 month period. By not enjoy, I don't mean the league mechanic, I just don't enjoy the game itself. It's not burn out and that I need a break, the game is just no longer fun at its core.
For me its clear, after "you have no phones?" issue they did the thing and the advantage with that opportunity making the game more casual, today is not necessary to continue with that strategy, I guess.
Full Harvest is besto waifu, give me 3.11 and/or 3.13 and take my money.
Says the guy not playing the league.

I see you.

I'm still trying to figure out if high launch numbers are "Vanity Metrics" or not ....

Or are they only Vanity Metrics if the launch numbers are lower?

WIll PoE die? Yes, every game does, eventually. Will it die soon enough for us to worry about it? Highly doubt it.

can you prove it that every game dies?

Can you prove that ots not the true? EVERYTHING "dies". Nothing is eternal.

This forum is hilarious.

Literally, EVERY LEAGUE without fail this forum is swarmed with "game is ded", "GGG don't know what they're doing", "goodbye threads".

The reality is that POE just had it's 3rd largest league launch in its history... And that was WITHOUT any new end game content added.

The game continues to thrive.

Sure, have your opinion that you don't like how things get nerfed, but that's POE and it has happened every league without fail for 8 years.

The good news is, GGG won't listen to you AND they will continue to thrive and smash 200,000 concurrent players soon (steam alone).

So complain all you want, but you're missing reality and it won't make a difference.

This game is a BEAST that will only continue to thrive, regardless of what you might say or think.

wow... is he the newest member of GGG crew?? Aiming to be employee of the month.. What a brown nose...

btw, steam charts is 86k 24 hour peak in weekends....

OR is he just a troll, I really can't figure out it's almost too absurd.
Only 86k on steam alone?! The game is dead. /s
The league isn't perceived badly because of its mechanics.

It's perceived badly because of its rewards.

Which can be broken in .001% of cases (from my cursory understanding of them)
