because launch numbers is all about marketing.. while retention numbers is all about long term success (and having a good, fun product). that is why big launch numbers followed by massive drop offs in players is a sign of bad things in the long run.

Peaks and troughs are the nature of the game.

Overall, look at the long term trend and it is clear it is rising nicely.

"Bad things of signs to come" is what people have been saying every league launch for 8 years. Charts say otherwise.

If you say so

Because player retention after 5 days post league launch indicates game is ded.

Next league when player retention is above 70% again people will still say the game is ded. That chart means nothing.
Well if you dont like number and facts, then I guess the whole world just lives in your imagination. That must be interesting.

Facts are that the game is thriving despite league launch complaints for the past 8 years.
I wouldn't say it's a completely black-or-white issue.
Even if the game isn't completely dead, statistics show that it is continuing to make the same mistakes and getting worse over time in terms balance and keeping players interested.

PoE isn't really one of those zombie games that lives on despite being dead, it's just... stagnant.
Sure GGG is great at inventing unique mechanics, but when patches/leagues overall continue to take more good out of the game than they add in, it looks bad on them when it's common for games to improve and gain players over time.

PoE has been up for years, and continue at this pace for longer, but there's just so much squandered potential and questionable decisions that I can understand why people call it dead.

What are you even talking about?

The guy gave you the facts - you reply that they don't matter, lol. Try to find some proper arguments.

I played a bit Standard league, as I could not finish my build in Expedition the way I wanted to. Guess what, the league is more than dead. No trades, extremely few players. To provide a counter example, some years ago I also didn't have time to play league, so I decided to play Standard a bit. Back then it was very healthy, plenty of people playing, despite an active league in the background.

And why do you think this has happened now? It happened because with Expedition most builds were destroyed. Also, a lot of items are crap compared to newer ones with better mods. Anything you do in this game is lost time. It might hold for 3 months of you are lucky, then the next nerf wave comes and your build is dead.

The problems lie very deep. There are few builds who are meant to beat this game, builds that can reach 6k+ life/ES, with good dps at the same time, without insane effort (10ex budget). But every league, only few can achieve that. If you dont play one of the few league starters, you already failed. You might beat the game, but it will be incredibly difficulty, and you will not earn a lot of high-level currency to support your build properly.

I doubt GGG know what they are doing. It is very clear they are trying to align POE1 with their plan for POE2, but if that is at the cost of anything that has been built in this game in the past, they gonna drive away a lot of long-term players. It's either that, or they know what they are doing, and want to impose strong meta shifts every now and then on purpose (to provide more incentives to restart). That's good for hardcore gamers and bad for everyone else.

But yeah, as someone else said, it is simple. Play the game if you like it, or play another if you don't like it. I am still having fun with POE, but the necessity for restart so many times and the fragility of anything you do is upsetting. And there are many others who think the same.

GL with that OP. You will be/are arguing with people who came to the forums 24hrs into launch, called for Chris's resignation, proclaimed the game unplayable and ded and then continue to play and complain xD Yep GL.

And here is some facts for you - even if PoE is in slow decline in past few years, they are still making more than enough to keep the game running.
WIll PoE die? Yes, every game does, eventually. Will it die soon enough for us to worry about it? Highly doubt it.

The people that are unhappy need a place to vent, and this is the natural place to do it. The people that are playing the game, are playing the game. And then there is the rest of us, who come here for god knows what reason like me.

I'm still enjoying the game and still come to the forum some times. The best advice to give to anyone that is new is to never come here :)

Weekend shifts have long hours, so i've got nothing better to do during the downtime.

Also good work cherry picking some arbitrary stats that don't actually mean anything without any real numbers. You have a future as a politician.
