Are players misunderstanding where Scourge leagues' rewards lie?

Its not lies. People just dont like this kind of rewards, they like upfront currency so they can buy items they want from trade. Anything a little more complex was considered unrewarding. It will always be like this, no matter what.

When majority have about 6c in their bank after acts finished.
It has been 4 days. Too soon to say “dead league” or whatever. It may not be your favorite, and you may not be good at handling the scourge mobs. I have ripped more than any other league so far and found zero exalt drops, but it’s still a fun mechanic with very little to pick up & micromanage. Give it a chance. They’ll change it within a week anyways.

I've been playing POE for going on eight years. I know how to get through the acts This is by far the worst start I've ever had in a league. My gear is total crap. My offense is crap. My defense is crap. I would LOVE to have some alcs to try on whites, but I'm stuck.

I'm playing HC and fighting mobs six below my level in Act 3. I'm still taking way too much damage for HC, and taking forever to kill anything. By forever I mean 20+ hits to kill a rare. Even blues can take 10+ hits with a supposed high damage slow attack speed build.

So maybe it's just bad RNG. Maybe I'll get a decent drop in the next 15 minutes, if I survive that long.

I like the idea of this league, but the implementation is absolutely horrible. This game has always had crazy RNG, but in this league it's through the roof. Sometimes I pop an encounter and there is nothing to fight, like 1-3 monsters (not packs) in the entire encounter. Other times with no grace period I'm down to a third health immediately when I start it.

If you want to be positive about the game, that's fine. But for me it's total crap. I haven't hit a wall in mid Act 3 for over seven years.

There is no need to defend it or not defend it. I think the item krangler was oversold and it's mostly a bust. The downside outweighs the upside so heavily I'll never put something I care about in there (unless they shift the risk/reward some).

But for maps, it's great.

And the additional encounter inside the map I personally enjoy. But it's very rippy and won't cater nicely to most builds so it's build limiting. That's never popular.

But selfishly I don't care. Everyone could quit the game and if GGG still managed to keep the servers on through some financial magic, I would still be good. So like I said, no reason to defend it.

EDIT: The krangler was good for creating rares after you find a linked/socketed item while leveling. That was useful, but limited to league start.

He's referring to any white item you put in to be transformed changes to a scourged rare. It's free alchs with a risk attached to them.

Except that its an alch with a pretty hefty (and often build breaking) penalty.

Where exactly is this coming from? Im on act 8, and have only found ONE 5Link, and about 6 normal fusings. If you are referring to the 15% chance that scourging an item will result in turning a 4L+2L into a 5L+1L, then again, thats FAR from "a lot more". Its a 15% chance... and... there again is a HUGE chance that the negative scourge mod will be build breaking, making the 5L complete trash.


The negative effects you can get on items are just WAY too globally damaging. Where as a beneficial result may help a very specific build, many of the negative ones are globally bad. So notion of finding one that your build isnt hindered by, is a farce.


Let me sum up how the experience feels this league:

I just found out I saved 15% on my auto insurance by switching to Geico, but also found out that my car just got repossessed.

Thanks for proving my point. You care only about frontloaded reward.
I'm usually pretty positive, and try to see the positive sides of every league mechanic. I also try to see things from GGG's perspective, and even though their execution isn't always on point, the idea may be good.

This league, on the other hand... I just cannot see the appeal. At all. Not a chance. Nada. Zip. It's hands down the worst (read: Subjectively most boring) league mechanic I ever played, and I started playing leagues in Legacy league - and it might be the second or third league I've ever quit before the three week mark.

There's not a single mechanic offered in this league that improves my way of playing the game. There's not a single element of these league mechanics that have made me feel rewarded in any single way. There's not a single league-related item that has dropped, that has made me go "cool". There's not a single krangled outcome that has made me go "wow".

It doesn't help that I find the current META very stale, especially when it comes to "regular" weapon scaling skills.

I seriously think I'm done for now. I'm not going to blame it all on the league or GGG. The league and the META do just not match with me and my playstyle - at all.

That's not alcs. Alcs are way better. Not only is the RNG way better with alcs, but I can bench craft, change sockets, and apply quality.

The transformer is a hell of a lot of work to get a few Alteration Shards.
