Are players misunderstanding where Scourge leagues' rewards lie?

Again that proves my point completely. Leagues that you have to make "work" will never be popular. Players simply dont like that. Same was with bestiary, harvest (the league), synthesis etc. If the rewards are not upfront its getting bashed.
Im not defending this league by any means, its kinda meh. Too many and to short shifts for me. I dont care that much for rewards honestly but im not blind. Just stating the obvious. Such reward structure will never be satisfying for vast majority.
I don't think it's a "work" problem. It's more that the wages for the players work (relative to previous experiences) don't justify them working so hard and risking so much. It's a bad ratio problem.
Crafting in Ritual with Harvest was not upfront rewards and yet people "worked" very hard running Haemlet 24/7.

Barren wasteland when scourge adds pretty much 100% more monsters to your maps.
Do we even play the same game?
Barren wasteland in terms of drops. There is no point in adding more monsters that are a net negative. What you get from the league mechanic in high red maps is
-zero xp (risk of dying at lvl 90+ is just too high and will annul all progress)
-no loot (crangled 0.5 loot items and a tainted blacksmith)
-corruption juice for a low tier crangled map that takes hours to make and might have negative mods on it that insta kills you.
Watch the video of the lvl 99 guy who got charged by a random Rhoa.
That is why most streamers and reasonable players at lvl 90+ in T16 skip it. It is just not fun but looks good in marketing material.
You are lvl 81 with gear that you usually use during "campaign" and you talk about high red maps? First reach those, then talk about experience in it.

Two my cents, I've expected more ,after these brutal nerfs this league should be fantastic, now it's a garbage ( plus poor visuality, random failure loading beetween locations etc. ).
I'm missing for Heist/ old Delve/ Legion/Betrayal/Harbinger/Blight ....

It was kinda upfront, you didnt have to do busy work of planting the seeds, you just got the crafts. The problem GGG faces is that all the other things we got rewards from still exist. You can just buy tons of Tujen / Rog logbooks and chain them for currency and items, you can spam ritual / legion / delirium augmented regions etc. How many things you can stack on top of each other? GGG HAS TO explore other avenues of rewards. Its lose / lose situation for them.
The league feels unrewarding because this one is very early game/top end oriented. There is very little to gain in the mid game where most players sit. You will be happy to get easy 5 and 6 links during acts and very early maps, you will gladly gamble if you have metric fuckton of exalts to blow. The problem is vast majority already has easy 5 and 6 links and will never have tons of currency to waste.
The rewards are in heist, as every league since heist.
I agree, Heist is profitable , but why main content is so bad ?
It's sad, as I wrote earlier- this league should be like beauty weather/cold beer/nice girls... even nerfed Heist, limited Ritual/Expedition seems far better than Scourge
