Some things that could be learned from D2R
For the love of god make loot mean something.
100000000 items on the ground, 10000 league mechanics making you bypass trading or caring about drops. You could have 2/3s less and make it more impactful. Nerfing builds as a bandaid solution to powercreep and glass cannon meta is way more risky, you're better of embracing the meta you created and working on reducing all the fluff. It's bad enough with crafting so powerful now you don't even give a care about drops. I would say make a real open world incentive for group play a create a rich public game scene but with the server MS difference and end game all around mapping that's just too late now. D2R while only having a few categories of public games actually feels like multiplayer. Constant power leveling games, trade games, end game XP run games aka baal etc still gives you a reason to group up chat, maybe PVP etc. POE since mapping has always just felt like a singleplayer game and now it's so easy to do most of the content in a couple weeks that you really don't care about playing hardcore to try complete that last few %. FEELING OBLIGED to make a new league mechanic every league was a huge mistake they can't get out of now. Last edited by poeGT#1333 on Oct 11, 2021, 10:34:15 AM

" Yes, a million-billion dollar company indeed, and therefore they know for a fact that they will still be selling a shit-load of copies to die-hard Hard-core fan-boys. A financial success, yes, indeed. Just like Fifa, Call of Duty and so on. Most people also know that for each one single game of Halo that is made, 10 CoD/Fifa is made, and still Halo is a far bigger and better franchise then Call of Duty/Fifa ever been and is. But still they sell, and at the same time, they are spitting you right in the face at the same time they take your money. Because of what is happening and what you see, is that each and every darn year, each and every store around the globe is that they sell CoD and Fifa to you for less then a freaking $1. And now they sold you Diablo 2 Resurrected for the amount of fucking $40. And the glorified piss-off package for $70 where you get D2R and - drumroll - Diablo 3 Complete, Yyaaayyyyy. A game that been out for ONLY 8 years already. And people is fucking biting on it and even buys it. FFS. Geez. What would be the correct and right way of doing it? Would be to sell Diablo 2 Resurrected Ultimate Package and get Diablo 4 when it is released, and get started 3-4 days earlier before actual release day. And what did Blizzard do on their very 30th Anniversary Date. Instead of actually giving folks some very nice stuff, they gave you a fucking package to buy for $30-$50 and give you some kind of worthless piece of in-game crap, and some original games that came out F´ng 30 years ago, with no modification whatsoever, and shitted upon you. And therefore I am totally DONE along with other things, with Blizzard and Activision for good. So, people out there, enjoy your D2R, and get even more fucked when Diablo 4 i sfinally released. I hope for the love of everything, that some of you people, wakes up and see what this truly is, before it is too late. |

" The times when I've been able to log into D2R, I've not regretted my purchase. My downtime has been significantly higher than my play time, but I suspect over time they'll figure out whatever is going on with the servers. It's not like it's going to change in the next [forever] so I can wait. But D2 is a product of Blizzard North. Activision/Blizzard throwing a paint job on it doesn't change the core of what that game is. That's why it still feels good. Because it's really not a current product that they've put their mark on. They'll always get sales because they're big and have a dedicated fanbase. Some who even think it's the same Blizzard of old. After D3, it was clear that was not the case for me. They'll get my money for D2R, but that's a one off. I'm sure D4 will be like D3, and not D2. D3 was the last time they fooled me into spending money on a new product. Thanks for all the fish! " This a a joke right? GGG, and any other company isnt in it for the money? What is it then? World peace? GGG sold out to a Chinese mega-corp with... fuck idk what I could even say truthfully about Tencent without it being a CoC violation. GGG is very greedy. Streamer servers, Gamble boxes, insanely priced MTX, and not to mention support packs increases in price but reduction in what they contain. (Also dont forget in the past they had a part owner that also owned a website selling PoE currency for real money). Not exactly the pinnacle of business ethics. Welcome to real world. Businesses are in fact trying to make profits. You think I'm gonna feel bad buying D2R? Nope. You wanna spend $200 at the bar, or on some sweet Jordan's? Go ahead. I'm not going to gatekeep peoples money on morality. You want to support Tencent? No problem, just have a little understanding of the hypocrisy this entails when talking about any of the other big publishers. I think you could very easily make the claim Tencent is the worst in the world. People who complain about this should just go play checkers online. The game is fun and fast, deal with it. Get into wrist warming up routines or something. Play lazy zombie necro. edit: I swear the god next complains are gunna be "I don't have a second arm to play poe". It's a YOU problem, bye. On some of this, you need to realize that D2R was a graphics improvement ONLY. They didn't go through and update any of the interface or anything. It's quite amazing that a 20+year-old game is comparable at all.
With the success of D2R, i imagine the Devs will go back and actually add content and improve the code next. This should improve the smoothness of the gameplay and the interface. Next, i expect a next chapter, with a new class. That's when the comparison to new games will be fairer. |

I only see 2 suggestions in there:
Reduce Drop pools. Make game softcore. Drop pools: While I understand POE's dropping 2000 items from one location on a map that are useless or close to can be annoying when you aren't filtering them, and sometimes even when you do, but they actually serve a poe exclusive purpose: -Chancing. The mass volumes of items are there for people willing to try to roll 100 items to get a specific Unique. Without large drop pools this would be elusive, and increasing chance success rates would just be broken. -5 times as many item bases allows for far more Uniques. -The cluster gives the perception that a good item is rarer (1 in 4000 drop of a Bone Helmet for example). Furthermore you can filter out garbage. What's the point of reducing drop pools when there are filters? --------------------------------- Softcore vs Hardcore game. 1) If you are getting 1 shot in current POE, you probably did something to deserve it. If you rare every map and run every map, especially one with frenzy on hit, 96% extra Phys damage as Cold, and 488% Crit/Crit Damage, and then you get 1 shot by Stagnation's boss that has a 3 second cast time on his sludge meteor.... you probably deserved that. If you have no defensive stats other than your effective life pool, you REALLY deserve your 1 shot. Nothing in this game will 1 shot you on a white map, unless you are grossly misbuilt, or it's a puzzle boss. 2) No matter what policy GGG or D2 follow will result in disappointed players. GGG lowering difficulty has always on average lost more players than keeping content challenging. The largest player declines have always been they go from a difficult league to an easy one. (people come back, too) D2 has always favored people who like overpowered content that's easily accessible. There isn't a single build in D2 that doesn't solo kill Baal or cow level on fairly cheap and accessible gear. Rune drops in D2 aren't exciting. In fact you can exploit the forge endlessly to get anything up to Ber/Um. Getting a natural rune drop beyond that is about as rare as a Mirror in POE. Most Zods come from combinations from Forge farmers. It's one of the most imbalanced parts of D2; Sets vs Runewords. |

" Never mind the fact that POE was born from D2.... totally incomparable. D2R isn't successful. It's nostalgic. They also don't earn anything for hosting it from old players. It's a sink. |
