Some things that could be learned from D2R

I think this is actually a very good take on the situation. Trading in D2 is absolutely atrocious compared to POE and most any other modern game. I certainly don't partake in it because I find it too tedious; and that's coming from a place where I think POE trade is mostly fine.

That's not to downplay what is going in POE; the status of drops in POE is bad. But part of progressing items in POE is easier because you don't have to wait for specific drops. You can easily (yes, I said easily) trade for upgrades if you want to.

I'm sure all the SSF people are mumbling something about being right or something.

That being said, I don't want that part of D2 adopted into POE. I would much rather they find a non-automated intelligent way to make loot less common but more rewarding.
yeah, no i dont want trade gutted to give drops more value, but it is important to understand where the issue lies and how cursed trade is. personally i think the one thing that has to be done is severely cut down on drops but implement smart rolls. this way we can have the same number of good rares drop, but not having to id 10000 of them to find them.

but even if you do this, almost every single item you find will be worse than what you can find for almost free on trade. and this cannot be “fixed” unless you make near perfect items rain from the sky, or simply delete trade.
What's the goal in D2 ? Farming items ? You will want a MF char , to farm those end game bosses , then . What are you doing with those items ? Use them on another char to ...farm more items? But you have an efficient char , who can do that already.

games consist of a series of decisions, in this case:

* should i spend/waste the time to pickup and itentify this item
* should i spend/waste the time to advertise and eventually sell this item

imho the important question is, are those decisions still in place?
every change that removes one of those decisions will likely not be considered by developers.

You can replace D2 in that comment with virtually every ARPG or MMO ever made, including POE. In many games PVE was simply a prelude to PVP which was seen as the true endgame. A premise taken to extremes in games such as EVE and tis also the basis for some cyber sports.

I highly recommend anyone playing D2R try joystick, you will find you are playing another game, no more hurt my fingers, just sleep on bed enjoying the game, joystick on D2R can auto refill potion, auto aim, very good at playing Necro or Pal, Amazon.

This x100. I couldn't believe how enjoyable it is to play on console. The hot bar alone makes it worth.

Which I think isnt true. If PoE removed trade, or if we look at SSF, PoE loot still sucks. It's not trade.

In D2R the loot itself is consequential. The uniques, sets, and runewords are build enablers.

In PoE trade league you mostly just hope currency drops to pay no-life crafters for gear you would never find yourself.

That feels fuckin bad.

why does it suck on ssf?

First because the game is not balanced towards SSF, so the rng and loot scaling is way off.

Second, the ability to leverage currency you "dont need" is eliminated. 40ex in SSF means something totally different than 40ex in a trade league, completely independent of game mechanics.

why does it suck on ssf?

The vast majority of it doesn’t even have the potential to be more than absolute garbage. The best way to gear in SSF is to run a meta build up to red maps, farm some high ilvl bases, and then harvest/fossil/essence craft to get an item that you’d be lucky to see drop once per 1000 hours of mapping.

Even if you craft on medium ilvl bases that max out at T2 mods, the quality of what you find can never compare to what you craft for the time invested.

One thing that could be learned is that servers being down almost all weekend on the 2nd weekend is not great. I get this stuff happens on launch, but the second weekend?
Thanks for all the fish!
