More like the measuring stick is which one is more controversial. Racism is a hot button topic, hence it gets a huge focus. Personal attacks are, by their nature, personal. They don't really touch on any particular ... controversial societal phenomenon (oh look, the CoC is impeding regular conversation again!) ... and so aren't as much of a priority.

I genuinely don't understand why the streamers got any hate at all.

They literally just asked questions, and it was made very clear that they didn't get to cover every single topic (And that they would be covered at a later date.) I would say that Raiz was the most important person to be there as he was the only one who genuinely pressed Chris for more information when a topic was evaded.

Overall as well, despite all the cringe around Chris mentioning hardmode every second sentence, I think the information we got as a community was actually very solid from the podcast in general. A lot of what was said was clearly off the cuff unscripted opinions, and Chris even went to the length of pulling up the pre-alpha dev plans several times just to hit home the point that they understood that they fucked up and that they had real plans in the works to combat the issues at hand.

And yeah, we didn't get all the responses we wanted. He stood firm on trading and levelling through the acts, as well as a few other key points, but all in all, I think what was discussed mechanically was absolutely sound.

I'm not personally a fan of the sweeping changes this league, but I can say with certainty that I feel reassured about 3.16 and 3.17 going forward. I'll also be listening in to further interviews with great interest after seeing the positive outcome of this one.

I mean Dalai isn't wrong. If the people were slinging racial slurs instead of death threats there'd be a more universal condemnation. But because 3.15 and 3.14 has ruffled so many feathers said death threats are given a free pass.

I'm not suggesting either is remotely acceptable. I am saying the prevalence of attitude where threatened violence is acceptable should be just as low as the number of people who find racism acceptable (and Both numbers should be getting lower all the time). Unfortunately, as society gets better at condemning racism, it has gotten worse at condemning violence.

No there wouldn't. You see the people arguing that these death threats aren't serious or a big deal? You'd see similar arguments made regarding racial slurs (aka 'sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you' ... unless you let them, of course). You have to be in a pretty all-encompassing bubble to think you'd see 'universal condemnation' of it.

Also given the nature of those above-mentioned defences of these death threats (i.e. that they don't mean anything or are just 'normal' online discourse), I highly doubt it's being defended just because 3.14 or 3.15 have ruffled people's feathers too much. That kind of reasoning holds regardless of how ruffled one's feathers are, since it simply doesn't take the threats seriously.

People don't even agree on what constitutes racism. Ironically, society has been far more successful at reducing violence than racism, since at least the physical form of violence is pretty universally recognized. Whereas even a physical attack performed along racist lines will be questioned as to whether racism was really the driving force.

Maybe the streamers shouldnt be so smug and mock the players

If someone is sending a death threat he's either insane or about 10 years old. It's that simple!
