" I have a hypothesis: I bet these people would complain very very loudly if 1 skill had a 99% playrate on poe.ninja even if, in this case, the build was perfectly balanced with the other ones. Meanwhile, give every skill gem perfect representation and they would clap like seals even if, in this second case, the builds were varied (imbalanced) in their offensive and defensive capabilities. I'm picturing someone enjoying the game, then deciding to check poe.ninja and instantly closing their client in a rage. "Damnit! I was having so much fun till I found out 15% of people are playing the same skill. Fuck! Now it's all been for NOTHING!!" |

I think the main difference is... Before you could play however you wanted to, nobody forced you into zoom builds.
You could play underperforming skills as they still had the damage to be counted as a defensive layer. You could play however the fuck you enjoyed playing PoE while having fun. Those nerfs made many builds not viable because mana/dmg/flask changes removed the defensive layer damage offered to players. That layer was desperately needed though, not because bosses are scary, they mostly are mechanical. But because random mob/aura/curse combinations are extremely lethal just randomly killing you at times. Killing stuff before it kills you is a viable defense. Underperforming skills/ascendencies are nigh unplayable, which means you are streamlined into how you are supposed to enjoy playing the game in their vision. Since FUN is highly subjective (I really can reccommend Dwarf fortress, it has SO many sources of FUN) the game got unenjoyable by a big chunk of players. Everybody loses (other than those which enjoy the current playstyle, fun is subjective after all) https://clips.twitch.tv/HomelyAntsyTomatoPanicVis-YLUmi6UEoli-ap9m?tt_content=url&tt_medium=clips_api Too bad he didn't hit his NEW AND IMPROVED BY AUTOMATION CURRENCY curse flask instantly after it reapplied, every normal human is able to do so, but yeah noobs are going to die after all. OK, because ggg removing posts that in they judgment are unconstructive criticism, hateful or just hurts devs feelings. Ill try to be more constructive and elaborate.
First of all i love Path of Exile very much. I love many of game concept. Item progression, end game content, currency orb economy is just brilliant imo. I love huge skill tree, skill-gems system. I like 7 class archetypes. What chasing me away from game is sadly ggg game managing more then game itself. If i could get any random patch from lets say 3.0 to 3.13 and reassure that there will be no more changes. I would probably have fun for years and never get bored, like i have still fun with d2. I got this strange vibe of ideology possessed from developers team. For example every patch builds distribution is represent by Benford's law. Some build are more popular, some less. And ggg seems to hate that, they act like they want equal builds distribution. Equality of outcome at its finest. Also ggg act like they hate successful players, every time my hard work, time and dedications start to pay off its get destroyed. Is ggg hate rich and successful people like commies? im hope that not case, yet one again equality of outcome is preferred. Even here at this forum some totalitarian tendencies are shown, Chris Wilson declared that he want freedom of speech, yet heavy censorship and removing lot of posts by very subjective criteria. I grew up behind iron curtain communist country and i remember same arguments to keeps people silent. Now regarding game mechanics. I understand that ggg have clear vision of they game, and full authority over implementing whatever they want. They have full right to not appeal no majority of player base, i highly encourage ggg to keep they vision, regardless my opinion and risk. But players are consumers of that vision, and our support is essential for that vision. So please let me at least address some of my concerns. Difficulty level, is one of these. I understand that there is some pride in statement that Path of Exile is complex and difficult game. The line should be drawn when that difficulty bring frustration. Lets bring for example famous Dark Soul it is difficult and its frustrating, but Dark Soul is also fair, with enough time investment it gives chance to overcome frustration, and game mechanics are mostly fair. Thats not a case with poe, enemies dont give enough time and visual cue to dodge, there lot of unavoidable deaths. Its impossible to keep focus and reaction speed, with all enemies, and potential treads. Most time we overcome this limitation by stack dps and speed, as keeping track on miltiple enemies is impossible. Human brain can track maximum 5 objects at time and average time reaction is 0.25s (ad server delay so average reaction is 0.5s actually) If you want player to reacting to whatever happening on screen? Then why there are tons of mobs from every direction with potential 1 hit me below 0.5s reaction. Its not difficulty, it just unfair. Its arpg game played at fast pace, and ggg implement many game mechanics that require fast zoom playstyle (blight, incursion, legion encounters, etc). You want us to play slow, and punishing us for that slow playstyle same time. And remedy used so far - removing high dps and speed builds from game to force us play slow, imo is stupid. Also those "overpowered" buids and setup ggg you hate so much can be only achiever by very small % of player base and need hundreds of our investment. Just check my ssf characters, some of them have godly items and cost me 1000h of my time investment yet rendered trash in the end. And at the end of day that is casuals players hit by those nerfs most. Those who dont have time to play 8h per day and struggle yellow maps. Last word to those to tell me shut up and that there plenty players left anyway. Maybe Path of Exile still have huge player base, but if you could earn 1000$ and get 100$ instead. Is that you gain 100$ or lose 900$? You lose 900$ On Steam game peaks around 60k players now - its still big number, but im sure that those numbers could be 600k easily if not Chris Wilson vision killing his own child. Good luck!

probably when the version number says 3.13 or 4.0.
Ive tried to play both 3.14 and 3.15 but I just cant make it out of act content because I know taking a character all the way in end game without the fun 3.13 mechanics is simply not worth the time investment. I did the math. all the layers of bullshit rng. the fact that the influenced item system inherently removes 99% of items from the drop pool. the fact that really all we are doing now is chasing exalts. Its not exciting at all. Harvest might have been ludicrously overpowered and was printing insane items. But it was the closest this game ever got to actually having chase items since 2.0. harvest items were RUNE WORDS people, rune words and good all rounder unique items from d2 like jalal's, the occulus, Herald of the zakarum. Those items DONT DROP in Path of exile. but at least we could make them for 2 leagues. (3.11 3.13). GGG your game HAS NO CHASE ITEMS. ZERO . NONE . NOTHING. YOUR END GAME CHASE IS A NOTHING BURGER OF DEPRESSION. I am not gona play a game with nothing to chase. stop making shitty level 40 and 60 unique items we are all gona not pick up. make level 80 ones we will pick up. make every drop influenced in maps so we actually have a shot of getting interesting items off the ground. or admit defeat and bring harvest back god damnit. " alternatively, make the crafting aspect of the game far more accessible, and allow people to be pulling mods via awakeners orbs a common thing, so people are actually using the few drops we see more often. my largest complaint is that most of crafting is badly gated behind huge currency or progress requirements, rather than being a common thing people do to improve the less-than-good items that drop. to me, the game should be about finding a base that is better than what i have in some significant way, but not necessarily hugely better, then crafting it with common crafting to make it an upgrade to my current thing. the whole "non-deterministic" crap should be saved for LATER in life, AFTER people have content accessibility for RNG chances at better things, but it should not be required to make a class work. as much as i hate how simple D3's item acquisition is, it serves a point, to get people to a good enough state before they slow down to the RNG pace of upgrading. In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is. |

Am done 3.15 on lvl 91. After one shoted by rare or magic monsters so many times on red or sometimes yellow maps, even with 9k life pool, it's makes the game disgusting. It should be normal to die on BOSSES if you make a mistake, but not on maps.
I also died so many times from projectiles behind the screen, not even seen monsters. And don't thing me wrong, monster should be dangerous for players, but it never should be so dangerous. New potion system sucks, where is the point with using flask's after you take ignite, poison, bleed and other. It was so many deaths before you even use flask with 1 sec react time. The stupid things what I saw, it was when died by POISON in 2 SEC with Shavronne's Wrappings, all ES just drop to 0 in 2 sec hrhrhrhrhrh. The flask system is now terrible, holding flask like: Quick Silver, Silver, or Sulphur, can't be used before fight or sometimes in fight, because they're holding your protection from bleed, freeze, poison, ignite, shock. If u use them before fight to move faster do more DMG or something, you will lose prevent from die in fight. And I love to move slowly. Now, talk about builds. Tons of build is still fun even after nerf, some just died, but who wants to play build compare to top cheaper builds, and who wants to play build what he doesn't like because of faster progress. Now 40% players playing Necro, Gladiator or Raider, it's not because they're more fun to play, it's because they are unbalanced with DEF, DPS and Investment. BTW investment, or more like items price, just look at Cinderswallow at market. Just why not give all Unique items to every player for free, we don't need to farm for 1 c. So I don't want to die every 5 maps, play necromancer or bleed bow, so bye bye. |
