so.. the melee is FINALLY dead now? :)

GGG cannot nerf your game if you don't play it, 200iq.
I know some ppl like melee builds, i thought the slams would be enough strong to be pretty good this league, since they nerf most meta, but will be interesting to see if many ppl will enjoy the game and stay or will just quit.

So yes. The average bloke is the target. Of all of this.

And rightfully so.

I get what you say and it sounds plausible but i still think you are in the wrong topic.

If we go by average accessibility then mines/spells/minions outscaled the fuck out of melee on SC trade which is the point really melee has been gutted a lot although i must admit two of my favourite skills survived the grand guttening.

So after the relative power balance this patch its still mines/spells/minions.

read the patch notes more carefully, i think youve missed A LOT

They reduced most supports by like 5%, but increased most melee skills by 30%+.

I'm fine with the changes and think they are good for PoE's long-term health. But you're not understanding additive changes v.s. multiplicative changes. The damage reductions are manageable - but more significant than 5%.

i hope you understand that going from 150% to 180% is not '30%' :)

Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I'm sorry. There you go:

I have been mostly playing melee builds for a long time (mostly strike skills). I usually complete all end game content in SSF. I have completed the feared challenge in Ultimatum with a non-slam Melee skill (Bladestorm Jugg).

I have to say that I strongly disagree with the post. Melee playstyle have been drastically improve with the animation canceling. The experience before and after that patch was night and day and Melee playstyle have been better and better ever since. Before that patch, the usual way my character died was from animation lock when attack. Yes, animation canceling can interrupt your attack sometimes, but I would say that it is still far more desirable than getting stuck while attacking often and died (very often).

Melee in general have more accessible defensive layer in the bottom tree more than Spells. There are fortify nodes (may be a bit weaker now, but this might be the only realistic sort of fortify effect left in the game). Bottom tree also have access to two sources of max res. There are also guard skills with passive nodes improvements on the bottom tree. Other niche cases are blind and blocks and dodge. Or even the new node that make guard skills remove bleed and corrupting blood.

Aside from Shaper, all of my first end game boss completion was done with melee builds (again mostly strike builds). Especially, the newer bosses (Sirus and Maven), which incentivized staying closer to them as much as possible, making even the extreme drawback of Melee strike skills irrelevant.

As for this patch, I dont think I agree that Melee suffer more from their reliance on support gems. In the early game might be a little, but the ceiling is way higher. This might be more suitable for a slower progression, since you will probably have to change gears more often, which will happen in the new patch.

Judging from what I see from the patch note and check damage number in PoB, Melee will definitely be fine, even better relative to other playstyles. I will be playing strike skill this league and I dont think I will fail to complete all the endgame content I aim to do.

Well, I suppose it's more like 10-20% ... still not the end of space and time. People need to get a grip.

10%-20% percentage points, on gems that already were in 50% range. So it's about 20%-40% reduction in effect.
