Don't suggest noobs to start the game in STD - FOR REAL

Wanted to test my new build and didn't want to level a new character so I checked STD and my goodness - that place is such a travesty!
Makes me feel bad seeing how many new players play there and are being suggested to play there; starting the game on a slow, boring & hard mode.

- Half-decent items are on sale at 5x the price while being on sale for a year.
- Common uniques that are 1 alch in leagues are 10 chaos in STD because everyone is too lazy to trade.
- Currency exchanges have 3x bigger trading margins
- Items sell for a fair price in weeks, not hours
- You thought exchanging exalts was bad in league? Try getting a response for a rare item in STD
- You will be earning way less than what you would in leagues due to extra rewards from league mechanics being missing and boss items or influenced bases already being dropped to their lowest possible value
- Underpricing an item won't make you reconsider the price through getting spammed with messages, instead you'll just undersell it due to low player count, which is a problem for noobs

Slightly tangent but the chat also seems more burnt out, whiny and snappy - even more than what you normally see!

All in all, I believe new players should not be playing STD as it's simply way slower, more boring, less active, imbalanced, more frustrating & unrepresentative of what the game really ought to be.

You're right, but you worry too much. The current SC trade league is the default when people log in, and 95+% of people will go there and ignore the others.

Ragnarok is near; I actually agree with a KMQ thread.

you forgot the point here, STD removes any time restraints.

There's no time restraint in league neither. If you grow to enjoy your character, you can keep playing it in standard once you're "on your feet", which is much easier/more enjoyable in league.

Funny how everything you listed has to do with trade. As if that was the main concern a new player has.

Most likely, someone new to the game is quite lost and trying hard to understand the mechanics. Trade being just one more of those things he needs to figure out.

And in that regard, standard should be less complicated if for nothing else than to avoid a legue mechanic on top of everything else.

Trading is a core part of the game.

Ultimatums are not complicated.

Trading is a core part of the game but it's not critical. Otherwise, SSF wouldn't exist.

What is critical and what is most likely going to be occupying the mind and the time of a new player, is understanding and learning the game's mechanics. Which, for a game like PoE, is no easy feat. And, IMO, trading (and it's problems) doesn't take precedence over that.

Edit: I'm not saying Ultimatum (or any other league, for that matter) is complicated. I'm saying it's another layer of mechanics that a new would need to learn, on top of everything else.

The whole "trading is a core part of the game" is just a dog whistle for "They allow this form of cheating."
start right in hardcore if hardcore is what interests you.

softcore will give you the worst habits if your goal is hardcore.

standard? whats that

Put the 1 transmute price to 1 chaos in leagues and everyone responds. It's irrelevant if you have to pay 1 chaos instead of 1 alch.
At least you have someone to buy from, in Standard you HAVE to pay 10 chaos for that 1 alch item in leagues.

That is just a blatant lie. When deciding to build my relic collection, I was fortunate in regards that the items were listed for 1-5c. The kicker is no one responds in ultimatum for a 1c trade.

EDIT: In Ultimatum HC it is the other way around, you got a high response rate.

I've seen you say this many times, but the fact is that item trading is literally one of the five main design pillars of the game.

The game is absolutely designed and balanced around the intention that players will trade items with each other. Your insistence that trade in this game is some form of cheating looks like a childish way for you to convince yourself that you're doing the right thing by eschewing trade.

In the end, though, choosing to trade or not is just another personal decision about how you'd like to play the game. But one thing that trade in PoE certainly is not is cheating.

The trading in league is horrible too

standard is expensive but if you search it right, they are most responsive

There are way many scammer in the game so that new player should play SSF and land their feet on know what is 6L and what is 4+2, what is 10 c and one is 1c before demoralised by all those scammer in-game

What is STD?
The thing is starting out in PoE without being a student or someone with lots of free time is bad in general.

League: Grind 80 hours before stuff is maxed for juicing end game and making profit before the next league starts.

Standard suffers from high prices in the midrange to high end rare market. A lot of stuff is dirt cheap compared to league though.

If you start the game as a newcomer you need someone to hand you gear for a guide build so you can rock league once or twice.

After that there should be enough currency to transition into the permanent league called standard that values your time and established builds.
