Y'know, I kinda suspect that the POE database is not a standard relational database. This isn't a blog. Not an expert on this sort of thing though.

The chances that it is not a "standard relational database" is nearly 0%

Well actually for a game like PoE, using something like Riak or MongoDB with sharding would have made as much (and arguably in my opinion even more) sense than using an SQL database, or at least a combination of both

Then again, I have no idea how GGG setup their game. The main advantage of MongoDB is its insanely low read times for latency (which obviously matters in games), and Riak gives completely predictable queries along with a completely distributed/fault tolerant database. Either of database its not any more difficult to do the equivalent SQL command anyways =D
You'd make a really bad CEO if you expect the devs to fix a difficult issue before rolling any additional feature patches.

Content Designers aren't even involved in fixing desync, so I don't see the misappropriation of resources here. In fact, you're probably wasting resources asking designers to fix an issue they don't know how to. Instead they could be spending their time adding more content like uniques, maps, etc or balancing the gameplay like they're paid to do.
