At this point, people would believe that statement about as much as they believe you'll be giving out supporter packs.
I would believe them if they said it. There is no reason not to.
It would have to be worded very clearly, though.

Some serious flat-earther type shit going on in here.
Let's band together, compile a bunch of streamer footage, find NO conclusive results, and still not question if we were wrong in the first place. LOL.
The real joke is burying your head in the sand and somehow believing that GGG is beyond reproach, so much so, that even asking questions is out of line.
Why do these questions even come up in the first place? Well because, not shockingly, this type of advertising manipulation, has happened in the gaming industry, with developers admitting to it, and why.
From increased chances for cards drops in sports games, to manipulation of matchmaking in shooters, to increased drops rates in looters, stuff like this does happen.
Why? Because it shows the game in a more exciting light. Nobody wants to watch a streamer in POE get shit drops for 8 hours, with horrible crafting and linking luck. Nobody wants to play that. But damn if the loot is dropping, GG items are getting made, and 6L's are happening its great advertising.
That being said you can't do that for everyone or else it fucks with your loot progession and retention numbers. Again this isn't new thinking in the online game industry. You need that carrot, especially in a f2p.
I'm not for sure saying that's what going on with GGG, but I can tell all the benefit of the doubt and trust I have given GGG has evaporated. Nothing would surprise me at this point with them.
Edit: added clarifying bits
Go ahead and be skeptical. It's your right and duty. It's also mine to be a voice of reason to Conspiracy laden minds. I've seen the "proof" these people are talking about, and they ignore the presence of RMT and outright video manipulation.
I can't facepalm enough these days and unreasonable doubt does do damage.

It's less a conspiracy theory, since there is already evidence that developers do this, and more do you believe that GGG is this unethical.
I think it's at least reasonable to consider.

You make it sound like people are approaching this judiciously. No, they are childishly and vindictively hating and bashing this drum. If you are ACTUALLY a skeptic, you'd approach this carefully, not like this.
The damage that unfettered Conspiracy-type thinking does to the world as a whole should be evident enough.
Take a fucking look around.

Well sure, I mean that's a given. You will always have those that peddle in trolling and hate for GGG, and on the other side those that think GGG does no wrong. Neither extreme is a fair representation.
That being said, the premise of the OP title is fair imo. The importance GGG placed on streamer experience and advertising, does make one consider how far they would go for the sake of an additional percentage revenue wise.

Sure, if they came out and just said with an agitated monotone voice "We don't do this shit." it might help, but I don't think they care enough to do that because they have bigger things to worry about... like coding and 3-d art.
And yup, you're doing it again, assigning undue WEIGHT to a fear that probably isn't true, inflating doubt and doing damage. The worst part is you think what you're doing is not a huge deal, that you're not even doing any damage.
Take a fucking look around the world and tell me that conspiracy theories aren't hurting all of us.

Look around the world and tell me where cheating, crime, lying, and unethical behavior doesnt exist.
It's not all sugar and rainbows out there, especially in business.
Why should we be any less skeptical about GGG (especially after the gamble loot box implementation, Tencent acquisition, recent streamer priority server, etc.)
I mean dont be naive.

I was going to make this its own thread and maybe I still will but it fits very nicely here.
We see no shortage of people here defending the unfairness of streamer priority as a morally justified consequence of the 'greater good' of protecting GGG's investment. It's the 'greater good' because GGG is doing it in pursuit of growing the game - which benefits everyone - even those whom are initially adversely affected by the inherent unfairness of streamer priority queue.
And so in that spirit, if unfairness is justified in pursuit of a greater good, why not give streamers better drops? But what if increased streamer drops wouldn't grow the game?
I was going to suggest the counter logic play - hear me out on this, I think you'll all love it.
GGG should be nerfing streamer drops - heavily - and put them farther back in queue on launch day.
Consider that when you're talking about paying these non-PoE streamers with a huge audience of acolytes...those acolytes are going to play what the streamer is playing with pretty much no questions asked. So by making the streamer experience worse, when those other players get in the game they find that they have BETTER rng and FASTER queues than their streamer idol.
Now they feel like they're better and luckier than their idolized 'professional gamer' and they can't wait to spend money and keep playing!
Non-sponsored streamers who have been 'maining' PoE as a game for years; we will make sure to include them in this program.
Now I know severely reduced drops and longer queue times might seem unfair to streamers but look, this game isn't competitive anyway and it's for the greater good of growth of the game :)
I'm sure they'd understand and be ok with it :))

I mean...why wouldn't they be increasing drop rates for streamers? Ethical questions aside, from a purely business/financial standpoint they either are increasing drop rates, or they should be.
-Will increasing drop rates for streamers without their knowledge make streamers happy and continue playing? "Yes"
-Does GGG market their game through streamers? "Yes"
-Is it illegal to vary drop rates of electronic goods for players without causing financial harm? "No"
So if it's good for their business, and not illegal, we should assume they are doing it.
For those saying we would see a huge disparity in streamer RNG vs themselves they don't understand that anecdotal experiences is not the same as data from the whole player base. Even if they increase drop rates of exalts by x2 or x3 or cause some rolls to be 'Lucky' it still won't happen very often, but it's enough of an increase to generate more clippable Twitch streams that viewers will watch and get excited about.
And for the record on my position, I'm not saying I want this. I would probably leave PoE if I *knew* they were doing it. However since we can't know without literally looking at the source code (which we'll never see) I have to suspect it's occurring, but never know for sure.
Im getting Schrödinger's cat vibes from this.
