That would be a huge step already too. But would not solve the boatloads of clicks that picking up things requires

This is not about autopickup of stuff without any direct interaction, this is about picking up same-items once you click one of them like this video illustrates:

It seems it's frequently asked for when the topic of "loot" comes up:

Vacuum pickup. When you click one item of a type, all "same" items in the vicinity get picked up too.
For example clicking one alteration orb will pick up all the other alteration orbs that are close enough to it etc.

That would be a huge QoL improvement, reducing clicking in this game seems highly desirable.

But it didn't happen yet for some reason, so I wonder why. I have yet to see any argument against that that outweighs the QoL and health benefits.
What speaks against such a system in the current state of game?

P.S.
Before anyone points that out:
It could be disabled in party play, just make it a single-player-only feature to avoid problems.

This is just about currency/stackables/consumable stuff (a), not equipment(b).

I agree with you.
btw,
Last Epoch has this system for fragments etc. Not for equipment and iam loving it.
Last Epoch also has an Auto sort tab system, its not a perfect system but it is sooo freaking handy. I hope POE is going to do the same thiing.
I would certainly like the system as proposed but I do feel like a lot of these issues can be more easily solved within the current system.

It would be a good start to have all stackable drops from a single instance to come out pre-stacked when playing solo. This would go for perandus chests but could also be applied to systems with deferred drops like delve, blight, rituals and incursion. Then you can just apply the deffered drop system to more content like breach or monoliths. This would save on a lot of clicking without touching single drops while mapping.

I also understand the theory behind the weighting of drops but I think that auto-stacking for these select instances can really improve how rewards are perceived. It is odd but pyschologically seeing a big light up from your loot filter is always more exciting than several small ones. A stack of 3 chaos orbs will feel more rewarding than three seperate chaos drops from the same instance even if it is exactly the same end result.

It would be a great QoL improvement and feel more rewarding imo.

Yeah, this is what I want. Equipable items need to stay "click every single one to pick it up"

That would be a good start but not enough sadly. Consider things like blight maps or 100% deli maps where you can easily have dozens of "same" things on the screen but dropped from different entities so that pre-stacking would not work. Looting this kind of content is an absolute nightmare right now.
F* the "weight of items". It was a fine approach at times when finding a 6-socket item was a noticeable event and 6-l was beyond average player expectations. Since that time amount of loot was increasing exponentially league by league.
How can we still stick with the same approach? The only feeling I got now is irritation and phantom pain in my finger just from seen a screenshot with a lot of splinters and currency.
PoE nowadays looks more and more like a fan-made fork server with tons of custom weird experimental stuff rather than original game with carefully thought out balance brough live to players.

Bump
Free bump, though I am sure GGG will never implement this.

People, please. Have you considered alternatives at all? What if any time you were about to pick an item, there was a popup menu with 'Are you sure? Y/N'. Think of all the possibilities in making it actually grittier. Additionally, you could have encumbrance in game, giving you movement speed reductions above threshold levels.

Also add food/drink/portable toilets.

I genuinely didn't understand what you are saying. Do you want them to make it even shittier than it is? :D
