Delaying 3.13 due to Cyberpunk 2077
" As the person who coined 'TencentGGG' (not to mention 'Skilldrasil', 'GGGold' and 'Skillgrimage'), I absolutely CBF explaining why I use it one more time, least of all to someone so out-of-touch to compare a simple yet meaningful portmeanteau with something Donald 'Wordsalad' Trump might say. Nice attempt at a dog whistle though, Querne. Not today, CoCpolice... __ I honestly think TencentGGG know they're the only game in town and can peddle crap like this 'announcement' and their legion of apologists will be perfectly coo' with it, and life will go on regardless. What I've seen so far confirms this. It's only when you stop to consider where the game was, say, a year before Tencent bought GGG that you start to see how much things have changed. The vast increase in mtx-related news posts per page; the consistently low quality league deployment; and now, a mind-bogglingly unnecessary own goal that simply has to have deeper meaning behind the scenes because it has virtually none as far as straight-up reasoning for delaying releases is concerned. PS Most of the people I know who are sharply aware of what 'TencentGGG' means are old dinosaurs from alpha/beta. Because we know. We were there, paying attention the whole time as the game slid further and further away from what was originally proposed: that hardcore ARPG successfully evolving the genre's core replay loop of loot-kill-loot. That's what we tested so long ago, gave so much feedback on. Ironically there's very little chance Tencent would have wanted to buy that game, which is probably why it never happened. Everyone should really keep in mind that Cyberpunk 2077 will also be released with a ton of bugs which will need fo be patched out over time, some of them likely big. This is what the gaming industry does across the board.
GGG’s announcement confuses me, but I really don’t have an issue with it given that I’m one of those pro-4-month-league guys. We're all in this leaky boat together, people. Last edited by demon9675#2961 on Oct 29, 2020, 2:19:56 AM

one difference between POE and cyberpunk is 'content depth'
POE gameplay is VERY shallow. you see pretty much entire game during one map clear. there is very little outside what you experience in these few minutes - everything is a repeat of these VERY FEW actions (sure, there are skill bugs etc but i hope you get the point) games like Witcher series have A LOT more to do. A LOT. if one door is bugged in Cyberpunk and wont oppen - tough, you just a) need to use another door or b) youll do another quest (and get back to this one) while waiting for things to get patched when one door breaks in POE.. you have pretty much entire league in the dumpster because that one door is EVERYWHERE. not to mention that there are games that get released in 99% playable state every week. sure, there are bugs etc - but they dont affect you this much (in general) |

This thread is dead in the water if it's going to be 'things different between PoE and cyberpunk'; might as well go on a gardening forum and argue why knitting is so different (they're both pastimes, right? COMPARE AND CONTRAST!). Surely the more relevant approach would be 'things that PoE and CP2077 have in common', given it's a fear that CP2077 will draw players away that sits at the weird heart of this announcement.
So far I have 'they're both games'. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I think it's a bit obvious? (not so for many or maybe too obvious but not really?) it's TGGG afraid that their typical poe streamers will NOT play poe during the launch of cyberpunk. Twitch culture is all about the hype game of the moment CP is the game most of the streamers are waiting for by now..
But perhaps I just grabbed my tinfoil hat too early. "Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."
Poe 0.2/10 Returning to poe in 3.27: ATROCIOUS game performance, 5/10 league and I apprently missed the loot back in the last league. The more things change the more they stay the same.. |

" It's so odd that I think reaching for a tin foil hat is almost the sane fucking thing to do at this point. I do agree that streamer culture probably influenced the decision, which means we have not only a shamefully open acknowledgment (we are delaying because this other game is better than ours) but an equally shameful concealed one (and all our streamers are going to be playing it). Oh well. Make a bed, lie If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

i doubt many streamers would be happy to admit - but for a 'one game' streamer switching games is not an option. they instantly lose 90% of their viewership (and more with time due to higher-viewed streamers/games getting promoted). even high-profile POE streamers will think twice before doing such thing - im sure GGG knows that
in my opinion it is more about hype train or rather how small it is compared to what happens around Cyberpunk. when almost all your income comes from impulse/hype fuelled purchases.. your 'cats memes/item power creep/new buffs for summoners' wont cut it this time. also: Cyberpunk is NOT a streaming game. it is a f.. adventure, why watch it when you can play it yourself? it takes the same ammount of time ffs! POE on the other hand is 80% slogfest 20% game. i fully understand why people would let others play it while they watch - there is not much difference after all Last edited by sidtherat#1310 on Oct 29, 2020, 2:48:27 AM

See that's what I thought as well. That switching games when you're known as a 'game X' streamer is really risky. Especially for something as personal as Cyberpunk2077 -- I get watching streams of competitive games where skill is a genuine factor not all players have, but why the fuck would you watch a stream for a brand new story-driven single player game when you could be playing it?
I don't get why anyone would switch to that as a streamer over Your Regularly Scheduled Brainfodder. Shit, ninja'd by Splinter. So each tin foil hat idea we conjure gets shot down by logic (as tends to happen when people who usually don't wear them try them on), which reinforces my belief that there are simply deeper reasons for this we'll never know or understand, other than Tencent almost *definitely* had a hand in it. Just give GGG rest.
They need it. Be kind! |

Shit, they can all the rest they want as far as I'm concerned. They do work hard; no one should dispute that. Run a few flashback leagues or whatever. Take a breather. Enjoy Xmas. It's been a shit year and you'd have to be a particularly mean bastard to begrudge anyone a little filler content.
Just don't use a bullshit excuse to do so. That IS the point of this thread, as the topic title makes abundantly clear. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
