The giant Elephant in the room currently (Expros take on meta)
Don't get me wrong at all, I'm a long term lover of ARPGS, especially POE. But at the tip of all my friendslist tongues are 'will I still play after D4 clears house'. And despite this being nonchalantly on all of your tongues, and the fact I consider myself a bit of a clever cat, I never caught that tongue so to speak. Hmphhh, I feel a need to translate: I never thought about how much Diablo 4 will change the atmosphe of Path of Exile until now. Here's what we do know (this is coming from an ex pro currently).
1) Path of Exile is a great game, but an incomplete one. Certain builds just crush, other ones feel outclassed and neutered. No game should ever have that, and this cannot be argued, especially to someone like myself who knows alternative mechanics that allow for a wide range of build equities. 2) Diablo seems to have the atmospheric and graphical advantage. This cannot be argued. The main boss fight in PoE looks similar to graphics you'd see on NewGrounds.com or Myspace backgrounds compared to boss fights like Malthael, etc. 3) Diablo 4 will have new content accessible to pro players. Pros like me will be able to meld and change the meta once again, and players like you will benefit. This is something we all should be thankful for. Biggest point, Point #4. 4) PoE is trade to win, and solo self found builds can take months of grinding to not even come close to finishing at all. Diablo offers multi-systems which allow deviant strategies which in turn, create a higher tier meta. This cannot be argued. Even in Diablo 1, there are strategies an advanced gamer can use to take complete heed of the entire gameplay, categorically if you follow me. I'll let the regulars decide, I don't think a pro should speak for everyone. So what do the common folk and casuals think? Will you still play your game as a shipwrecked Titanic when a giant Yacht is available currently? Last bumped on Oct 23, 2020, 11:54:42 PM

Some players do not have cognitive abilities to play PoE succesfully and prosper in it.
But for sure D4 welcome all them with open jaws. And offers low brain effort ways. This can be argued ofc. xD |

" My friend, usually when I play the races on PoE I'm in the top 10 until I get bored and head for a game where it isn't all about dodging 1 boss move and having 20k health or shields. You know something is dreadfully wrong with your game when you need a 6 slotted item to progress, rather than learning a new skill or micro style. |

You want a game where your choices don't matter. That's fine. There's lots of them out there. PoE has lots of bad choices. It's the nature of their design. You have to make good choices to succeed... and even making good choices will only get you so far.
You want them to throw that out and replace it with "what ever floats your boat should work just fine." Many of us don't agree. |

" Yes, my friend. Cool story, my friend. I really want to believe that, my friend. |

" You knew, and still you responded. You. Knew. Eh, guess I don't blame you. It was actually a fairly good opening post, but that just means SDU has upped his bait game. Of course he's still going to bang on about how good he is given a tenth of a chance. For some particularly memorable forum users, it's never about what they say but how they use what they say. So what might be the beginning of a good dialogue from one person is little more than an invitation to self-aggrandize to another. Usually we can determine when that might be the case by post history. That's not to say people can't change...only that absent motivation to do so, they usually won't. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Oct 11, 2020, 8:42:02 PM

Strange topic. I don't mind taking hiatuses in PoE, even during leagues, so even if I play some D4 for the hype, I'll be likely to drop it after few week at most. However the game has been seriously casualised over the years, and at its current trend, it will end up beeing more casual than diablo 3 in maybe 2 to 3 years.

It's easier when you have to balance 1 or 2 builds per class like in diablo games than when you have a multitude of builds like in PoE. Also, I don't trust D4 to have any depth until I see it. And that's why I play PoE over D3.
