POE 3.12 HEIST league is BAD
I do not know what "correct" means within this context. But I like the choice how you engage the content. You can choose when to run a heist, it is not forced by current map.

They got the aesthetic right, but that's about it. It could be made acceptable to play if they nerf a lot, both mobs and alert meter mechanics.

After doing hundreds of Heists now at monster level ~75 after spending around 30 chaos on my character it's not too bad.
Once you level up your guys and equip them with gear the Alert meter becomes less of an issue. Also, always make sure to use the guy that lets you take a chest on the way back as the valuable chests give like 40% on the alert meter which is borderline retarded. Easiest way to play is always run as fast as you can to the end without looting any chest only killing things once you reach a end where your companion has to open. For some reason alot of mobs only aggro when you stand still and idle, simply just running will skip alot of mobs. Once you reach the end you will often have around 50% alert and all doors are open. Pick up tiny chests closer to the entrance until you get around 95% alert. Then pick a big chest close to the Heist target, run as fast as you can to the end picking up small chests along the way. On the way back you'll use your companion to break a second big chest. Doing this strategy I usually get ~90% of the chests in a Heist. That being said, had an exalt drop yesterday and my game crashed. Since then I've focused on mapping instead. EDIT: I'm playing golementalist right now but kinda getting regrets due to the insane Primordial Jewel prices. I've farmed up 10 Exalts but blowing everything on primordial jewels just feels bad. Holy shit ive never seen so many rare mobs stacked on top of each other. Huge pack of rares in front with like two bosses mixed in... and guess what a pack of rare mobs from behind too... This is like hard mode++ its fun but god damn.

I think the problem is auras. None of the heist mobs or rares on paper are one shot mechanics, but when you have 12 rares in the same spot, stacking every aura in existence on top of each other and suddenly trash mobs are gibbing players left and right. I am being 1 shot with 7k hp / es in level 68-70 heists. I have basically just given up trying to complete them, lol.

Well this league is actually being received really well, despite the big bugs. I love it and it adds a whole new alternate end game. Since you can completely avoid it and/or just run them when you want, it is pretty good way to do it.
Anyone going back and forth between maps and Heist are doing that to them selves. I would suggest running maps for a while and build up Heist to run and then run several Heist in a row. Makes it pretty enjoyable for me. This is SOOO much better than Harvest. A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I'm trying really hard to like this expansion... but they've balanced the combat around characters who are twinked to the gills using optimal specs and the most powerful of skills. Anything short of that is crawling.
