Is the RTX 3080 too much for POE?

Just for some clarification Frostbite is an Engine made for simple First Person shooters that look pretty like battle field. But Frostbite really isnt meant for RPGs. See Kotaku articles from Jason Schreier describing how Bioware failed on the Frostbite Engine for RPGs. Latest example is Anthem.

An Engine is a collection of Software used as tools to develope games. If the requirement asks you to model a character inventory but all your toolbox offers is guns on a hotswap then guess what... the engine is not well suited for the task even though those guns look "pretty".

I think PoE has the most efficient engine considering the amount of complex game mechanics and calculations going on.

Unreal Engine is more a sort of one size fits them all but it doesnt exceed neccessarily inhouse engines made for specific tasks.

PoE is one of a kind and no engine other than their own could pull of what GGG is doing which is content 4 times in a year in a highly complex fast paced game with a lot of stuff going on simultaneously.

for a game with the scale of PoE, it is obviously not 5%

the advantages of a proprietary engine outshines so much when you need to patch and fix bugs because you are not seeing a black box over the sandbox tool

take another example: Warframe
the game is very stunning visually (better than UE 3.0 in some areas) but it takes a toll on the devteam for the almost same business model GGG adopts even with a proprietary engine. i doubt the game would be viable economically if they licensed UE and they should know, since they worked closely with Epic when developed unreal tornament in the past

You , as everyone else are forgetting 1 massive fact.

The Customer. Many people are willing to donate for a game with higher fps and better graphics ,than for 20fps stutter mess.

Think about it. Hence the world wide saying: His majesty the customer.

Who is gonna donate more? A pissed off customer or a happy one.

I for instance dont like at all the low fps im getting in a hack and slash simple game.. Not even to mention that Battlefield 5 prolly has 10 times more poligons per level than Poe..

you can't mix something so subjective like "costumer approval" to make a point...
cyberpunk 2077 sold over 8 million copies AFTER factoring refunds, many were pissed and CDPR probably didn't hit their selling mark, but they most definitely made a profit. FIFA games are copy-pasta from one another they even copy the bugs but the game makes a profit nonetheless...Rage 2 wasn't much of a good seller but Doom Eternal - using the same engine - repeated most of the doom 2016 success

you can't predict the market and customers reactions solely on the engine

the last unreal tournament launched in 2014 was the posterboy for UE 3.0, better than Source engine in every aspect and it was a fiasco in player adoption
Apex Legends uses UE and it is a successful but the design is completely different: a FPS BR game designed to the core to be an Esports
Valorant also uses UE...

do you see the pattern? UE is designed mostly for FPS games or a very close 3rd Person...just face it, the engine wasn't made for isometric RPG's simply it isn't Epic's forté.

Want to see how amazing Unreal Engine is? Go check ARK Survival Evolved. Its made on Unreal Engine. PoE optimization is amazing in comparison to that thing.

yeah i know 100 games made in unreal and i play them with 200 fps..

How about that..

Tell me how many of them are ARPG/HNS hybrid.

From those games, how many are ARPG that are so big and complex as PoE?

And 3 months to put Poe on new engine?! #facepalm

If that is true, why is then every game RPG/ARPG delayed few years if they need to change engine in the middle of the development?
omg I just wanted to answer that good guy about CPU/GPU bottleneck in my system and caused a whole new discussion on that otherwise dead topic lol.
Didn't even read the OP, just read the title and this is all i have to say.

Yeah man, you definately need the latest, most powerful GPU for an isometric view arpg from 2013!

/sarcasm

wrong, they been working on the engine all this years with its ups and downs, and it will evolve into poe 2 soon enough. So yeah good GPU is always welcome for this game.

imagine having to write the intention as a back slashed comment to make your self clear. LMAO

Currently playing on a Ryzen 2700X (@4.2ghz) with a GTX 1080 @ 2560x1440 (@144hz max... which I never reach!), thinking of buying a 3080 to hopefully play that 2k resolution with near 144fps... Am I dreaming, could it be achieved? Would the 3080 be too much?

I think 3080 is kinda weakish for Poe.

You definetly need 3090 for it..

And it better be overclocked..
Does any of you use which kind of anti aliasing settings?
fxaa
msaa?
what about antialiasing transparency?
what about AA gamma correction?

Which of these costs too much performance?
I dislike rarity so much im almost quitting poe2. GGG.

The game industry DOESNT USE UNREAL ENGINE FOR 1 REASON ALONE.

IT TAKES 5% OF their profit.

All the rest they tell you is a dust in your sheep eyes and as i can see here u are all falling for it..

Unreal engine is the best engine there is performance/resourse wise.

Compared to it the GGG engine is like comparing LADA vs LExus..

The latest Unreal 5 engine will dominate everything on this earth for decade..

The only close engine which also is good and optimised is the engine used in Doom .

Remaking Path of Exile in unreal 4 engine shouldnt take more than 2-3 months ( includng the beta tests..)

Any real developer can confirm that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_rtawWdxwk - Tomb Raider classic remade

Watch the WoW remade video and see for yourself what would happen to your favourite games if remade in Unreal..

Wtih such powerfull hardware like 2080 and 16 core processors fps drops to 20-30 in multy game is ABSURD. I have a such a pc and last night had fps drops to 24 in full game.. i had to turn down effects to get low 1% of 40 min.. That was ridiculous..

My minimum fps in Battlefield5( Ultra settings) was 113... compared to 24 here..

GREAT ENGINE AYNIX.. GG.

My point here wasn't to shame anyone. It is to show you ,that the game could run TIMES faster with a new engine. It's just GGG have to sacrifice some cash for it.

One last thing . I would much rather donate to a game where i play comfortably with 100 fps instead grabing my hair in anger when i die from 24 fps stutter due 100bln unoptimised effects.

Preach... not many knows this. I myself didnt knew this but I can clearly see the difference. If they can just bend the knee for 5% profits which they gain by us who buys their mtx then they should do that instead of being extremely stubborn.
I dislike rarity so much im almost quitting poe2. GGG.
