GGG, Tencent, & The CCP Human Camps

The irony of posting something like this from a electronic device that has its rare earth mineral components mined by child slaves in Africa. . .
With the US/EU Policy change toward Chinese tech companies operating in the US and since GGG's server farm is in Texas...

Not saying I want to see this happen, but we may not have an option to play soon.
Well done OP for finding an injustice in the world and wanting to do something about it.

I see others in here posting illogical arguments -
Don't let an inability to solve all problems at once stop you from addressing one at a time.

As far as what you, GGG or even Tencent can do about it - there is actually a lot. The CCP is coming under a lot of pressure internationally at the moment for their human rights abuses and Chinese companies are finding that their products and services are losing customers due to their entanglement with a government that acts this way.

Tencent can choose to put pressure on their government, both politically and personally - this would be a courageous choice given, but is still an option.

GGG having shareholders in China does not mean that they are beholden to the CCP or their morality. GGG is a registered company of New Zealand, a company with a long history of foreward thinking social progress. The cencorship and dubious moral choices of GGG are not destined to repeat. Pressure from customers and staff can encourage management to do better in future.

As for individuals, don't get fooled by the myth that every individual can make a difference - you will need to join an organisation or movement to have any kind of influence. An example is: https://www.hrw.org/asia/china-and-tibet

I love PoE, but this is beyond disgusting.

I'm pretty sure it's already well known by now, about the recent surfacing of the inhumane Camps in China and Tencent working directly with the CCP.

But now that Tencent and China is underfire, specially about the horrible Camps, I really need to ask:

GGG, will you leave Tencent?

You built PoE without them, and you never even needed them.

I was here before Tencent even was apart of your company, and I know for a fact that you didnt need them.

So with all the horrors now known to the world, from both Tencent and the CCP, why are you still with them? Did you honestly take so much of their gold, that you no longer can be independent?

I honestly feel like leaving.

As I do not want to be affiliated with a company that supports people and children being killed or forced into labor by the CCP.

leave
kind regards

You must be from the US. Where opinions mean more than science and facts.

Edit: why is this thread still in GD?
It will convert your forum titles into decorative square badges that use the space next to your forum posts more economically so that you can show off an unlimited number of them at any one time. - GGG, 2018 (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3573673)

I think GGG is a bit hesitant to remove these threads in violation of the political part of the ToS due to fear of looking like they're censoring dissenting opinions on tencent/china/etc. Regardless of what I feel on these topics, this really isn't the place for their discussion, but not everyone gets that.
There's no powercreep here. Creep implies it's slow and could be overlooked, this is a full out sprint.
Very strange that they've let this one go. Not even a "Hey guys, cut it out" post.
Tencent supports the Chinese Communist Party and its murderous live human organ trade, etc.

In 2018, Tencent became a majority holder in GGG, acquiring 80% of the company's shares. The three co-founders hold the remaining 20%. Two of the co-founders also sit on the board of directors, alongside 3 appointed by Tencent in April of 2018.
Wikipedia.

TikTok is the first casualty of the current Tencent crackdown. Path of Exile might also be on the hit list.

Interesting how China and America are #1 and 2 producers of rare earth minerals, and no African nation shows up in the top 10 list, and companies for years have been going out of their way to avoid using blood mines as a source of anything
I'm astonished this Thread has been allowed to stay...

But I must say: Although Tencent certainly pays the CCP taxes, Tencent isn't the Chinese Government and your conflating the two isn't something you substantiated (why is Tencent culpable for the CCP's wrongdoing?).

But you're right: the re-education camps are egregious -- and that's just one of many things that the Chinese government is guilty of doing.
