Name a ARPG better than PoE

Judning by countless other games it probably wont. Even if it will you have no way of knowing who will be the publishers. What if it will be Aeria Games? It could be even the best game ever and it will be destroyed be p2w. Never have expactations, you will be dissapointed 99% of times.

To be fair there is not a single ARPG that has more endgame content then PoE.

that game has dead on arrival written all over it
This game is the epitome of pointless development and you think this is the best sh*t possible?

Going through the ACTS and the story line is just a huge chore. The 10 act journey actually has barely anything to do with the actual game, that happens mainly after you complete the 10 acts journey... Everything that happens up to a lvl ~60 is nothing but a pointless grind that you are being forced to go through. First time is OK, new stuff and so... But when you are forced to do the same thing each time for different character, which imply only one thing - that there are no different characters in this game and there is no point in introducing them in the first place, since the story does not include any differences related to the character you choose... So the actual "Role Playing" element is hardly seen in this game.
It is not the Role play but rather different skill set or using different "skills play" and this is different compared to the class, or role, or race approach. First of all it has to have a history, lore behind it. What we have here is different character design and different skill tree position for those characters based merely on their appearance.... You call that different roles.. OK..

This is actually comparable to Heroes of Might and Magic IV hero building approach where you picked a hero and build him based on what magic you wanted him to use. Just like in POE no one really cared about that specific hero and his story, but rather on what kind of spells and items that hero will have to benefit his army. So that was kind of "role-play" element introduced in turn based strategy game, because you could build several different heroes and use them on the same field. But it had little to do to actual role playing, where class/race/ability emerged from the actual LORE and history of the characters... It has so little to do compared to lets say World of Warcraft, Lineage II etc..
Actually a Runescape has even wider approach than the POE in the character building, where you simply take a random character and build him whatever you want... And I would say that the balance there is pretty damn good compared to what we have here in POE...

Without graphics, and skill animations I can hardly think of a benefits this game has over others. Sure there are more content compared to some other games, but when you go through it you simply see that in general only a handful of that content actually bring in the benefit while on the other games the content that the game provides you with is pretty much equally important and a player can choose different paths and those paths provide him with the ability to reach the top, some maybe slower, some maybe faster, some maybe more popular, but they all offer the same top tier possibilities. While in POE what we have many paths with dead ends to the point where you actually are forced to start the game from 0 using different "class" because the one you choose cant get pass Tier 13 maps...

That really is just a poor poor balance and over complicated design.

In reality this is a BETA stage of something that in the future might turn in a proper RPG type game. But now its just a mix of everything anyone can came up with without any plan.

If a proper development team could take the best 1/3 of the content this game has, they could make it in to the best RPG game world wide. But they simply wont, because that would require more work than to start a completely new project based on this one but only incorporating stuff that actually works.

I could compare this game with the analogy, a bucket of crabs, where every crab is trying to climb out of the bucket, but instead of working together they try to prevent one another from climbing out... That`s the current state of the balance in this game...

You mean D2 not PoE? Picking a class is nearly irrelevant to the skills they'll use since there is such a vast array of skill gems.

PoE is getting dangerously close to having "too much" content that feels semi required to do to stay up to par.

Mobile games run into this problem in their attempt to keep gamers playing longer (in order to spend more) and burn out their audience, inevitably imploding and dying.

I need to reach maps cool. but also need to get various labrynths done. ok not so bad. I then need to reach depth 250 or w/e in delve to get that ilvl on par with the maps im doing. mm eh okay. i then need to get all the betrayal people identified, linked up and balanced. now, hang on a minute. i then need to get cluster jewels rolled to get my build, and maybe a legion jewel. I said hang on! Then I need some L3 temple rooms to craft such and such...

oh and then i might want to consider the achievements for the league, and the new mechanic that needs 150+ hours dumped into it.

I love PoE, but at times it feels like an abusive relationship.

I agree.

They (GGG) seem scared of making content trule optional and/or making some content separate from maps. I think PoE could take a step further, if they weren't so hellbent on keeping the Atlas the hub for absolutely everything.
