You didn't have miss anything, d3 is very disappointing. It feels like the simplified version of d2

Thanks Tagek

Someone didn't read my post XD

Also for someone who was disappointed in how things were going earlier in the beta, I must say it was better then I was expecting. Some things like the nephelam alter idea were taken out, though I still don't know why they didn't just put all the skills on one page.

The funny thing is they originally had them all on one page in 3 categories. Then they updated the skill UI to reflect their changes in Runeskills. Why, I have no idea.

This is one area I strongly disagree with Blizzard. The previous incarnation of the UI and rune skill icons were so much more polished and intuitive.

The new rune icons look like generic rocks with squiggly lines on them. They look like placeholder art and I was very disappointed to see them cut the beautiful orb art they had previously.

I'm not sure why they didn't just cut the rune levels and use the same Crimson, Indigo, Alabaster, Golden & Obsidian icons and names and have you select them from the previous UI in patch 12 I think it was.

I personally hate the new Humongous multi-tabbed skill UI now. All to enforce 1 category per action button. Many of the skills are shoved into categories that don't even make sense.

Will this prevent me from enjoying the game? No. But I do think the previous Patch 12 UI was far better.

Here's what the old Runes looked like:

And the new (sigh):

And finally the old Patch 12 UI (R.I.P):
“God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I will never die.”
I played almost all the classes to level 13 on this weekend D3 beta and absolutely love it.

I was having reservations with all the fervent naysayers but now that I played it, I am hooked. Preordering it now for sure.

And all my friends and brother love it too so we will try to all play through it together for the first time. I can anticipate the fun already.

Contrary to some, we loved the graphics especially in dungeons. We also loved the fluidity of play and balance of skills. Every class seems powerful and satisfying to play ie the feeling of power while smashing through hordes of demons. Yet all classes have very different playstyles.

That kind of balance between truly different playstyles while being all equally powerful and satisfying to play is not easy to achieve.

Also the systems of runes, skill selection, followers, crafting are all very intuitive and fun to play with.

The Bnet 2.0 and chat system are still quite basic. I hope they improve on it. Didnt get to try the AH yet (ie actually buying/selling on it) but what I saw seems nice like when you get on it, it automatically shows you the items that will be most helpful to you (class wise) and I think you can search the database although I didnt try it. All of it seems to aim toward the proper purpose of an AH which is to facilitate trade.

As a conclusion, for me the most important question when buying and playing a video game, aside from all the individual technical details, is "does it all come together to wow and give you that feeling of pure bliss and joy when hitting demons after demons ?". After all if that kind of pure fun from just killing stuff is not there, it becomes tedious after a while and all of it can be replaced by a automatic random generator spewing loot and experience points. And the answer is yes, I did go " yessss oh yessss " (literally) when bashing demons in this weekend and that is what sold me. Each fight were a pleasure to look forward to whether it is with the barb decimating opponents with frontal assaults or a monk dashing about like a Bruce Lee alt or a demon hunter vaulting all over the place with burst of speed and rapid fire. Pure joy and fun.

At a purely visual level, Alco, the new runes do look a lot more like traditional 'runes' than those old orbs.

...Which is why I'd always hoped that they'd drop the 'R' word and just call the damn thing 'skill orbs' or whatever. The confusion between D2 runes and D3 runes would have been avoided altogether, and they wouldn't have had to juggle in 'rune'-like images.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

I'm really glad for you that the closed beta experience of D3 was so fulfilling and pleasurable! You really do convey with your words just how much fun you had, and indeed how much you wanted to share that. So congratulations on successfully achieving that without sliding into a less enjoyable mode of preaching or ranting.

Just one question for you, though: what's your previous experience with arpgs/diablo-like games?

Thanks in advance for your reply. :)

Honestly, there isn't really any confusion. There really isn't a good reason why they cut the orb icons for those crappy chunks of rock ones that have no personality.

For me, they are just a visual eye sore.
