Isn't PoE's Steam description false advertisement?

There's also no quibbling over whether or not this is too pay to win

Of course there is. Maybe not in your mind, based on your opinions made out of your definitions. But as debates like this pop up pretty often, and they always tend to last for quite a few pages, there absolutely IS "quibbling".

There's always more than one side in a debate. And even though you "feel" you're right, doesn't make it true :)

j33bus wasn't expressing an opinion there but rather (correctly) pointing out that the opinion one happens to hold on that particular matter is moot. It is irrelevant to the thread's original post.

You just described most of the people in this thread. This is why you can rarely have intelligent conversations on PoE forums about anything remotely as nuanced as the distinction between f2p and "completely free," which the OP was trying to make.

The noise-to-signal ratio is awful around here, and it's only gotten worse over the years, with the number of people posting who obviously don't like to think. My theory is simple: PoE in its current state more than ever caters to this kind of personality, so it is a natural consequence of self-selection. :P
Wash your hands, Exile!
It's free to play with a realistic requirement of $10-15 to permanently put your gameplay at ease.

So that's your choice. Pay a small amount for a blood pack, don't do it and still play or make the 1000000th thread about p2w when POE has the most softest monetary requirements of nearly any major franchise.

I'll see you all in the next thread.

Free game, no bitching.

Yea, the premium stash tabs fall under the classic pay to win definition. The best way to get ahead in the game is to trade, and the best way to trade is to get the premium tabs. It's paying for a clear advantage, as long as we're being binary about it it's the same as selling gear. Saying never pay to win is just untrue.

Your argument lacks facts.

You can play without trading and do all content.
You can trade without premium tabs.

Why is WILLFUL ignorance so popular these days.

How did GGG make you pay for anything in order to play this game?
They don't, of course, but the necessity of paying is not the issue. The description doesn't say "we won't make you pay for anything in order to play this game". It says "Path of Exile is completely free", which is a different statement.

Gus you've been at this game a little longer that I have mate, but I don't understand the point. That could be on me since I graduated from "special" to "essential".

I am going with basic math (help me Shags...heh). First-statement=Second-statement. Neither > or <. The same argument that white is not a color, nor is black.

Everyone's getting a little cabin fever bud, I get it. I like discussion, either public or private. Non-aggressive with an open mind.

The first statement doesn't equal the second statement. They're saying different things.

You argue that you don't have to pay to play the game. That statement is true. It's just not what the thread is about.

The statement that the game is "completely free" is - as far as I'm concerned - not true, because the game contains things which are not free.

This is not a worthwhile distinction to make. Or rather, the second part, being "completely free" is not worthwhile to consider. How could the game possibly exist and be in active development by a company if there is no business (things which are not free) involved?

The game is free. Just as they said. There was NOTHING about "EVERTYHING IS FREE IN THIS GAME".
Literally no one with at least 2 brain cells would think that "the game is completly free" means "you get everything for free".

This thread here is about whether or not the "Path of exile is completely free/costless" aspect is true or not. In my opinion, it's not - and therefore false advertisement.

I finally get it! Not this, but something else that happened today...

I suggest they put a label on the download page, like the Surgeon's Warning on a pack of cigarettes:

"GGG's General Warning: This product may cause a drop in your net-worth, due to you enjoying it and buying too many variations of stash-tabs, MTX and Guild stuff".

I like grapes...
