Wolcen overtook POE as the new number 1 arpg game on Steam (127k concurrent players at the moment)

future wise.
lets see how much the playerbase can handle their league launches now that something else is in the market. "Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."

I'm baffled that Wolcen has the sales numbers it has. It plays like it's still in alpha. I regret dropping $30 on it so early because I rewarded their releasing of a pile of garbage.
It's good for the genre to have some pressure put on GGG. When Blizzard showed the work they'd done so far on Diablo 4 I knew it was still 2-4 years away and I'm sure GGG did too. No pressure at all on GGG to improve. Wolcen could make a dent if they can fix the most egregious issues. |

I have 30 hours under my belt in Wolcen and am into Act 2. It's just now getting difficult (or at least I have to pay close attention in boss fights). You certainly can't compare it to POE in any realistic manner. I'm playing offline and haven't any problems at all. It all plays great. It's 1.0 so, easy to nit pick it about how it isn't as rich in content as POE; it isn't. I like how they have handled melee. It feels like melee.
It is gold based and nicely, gold is auto picked up! The graphics are excellent! You can play a female who fights in her underwear. The various skills and styles of magic seem broader than POE, but I don't play spell casters so I could be wrong. I'm liking it and push on through the end of Act 3 and into the endgame. It is an excellent first step that I'm sure they will tweak over time. It is certainly not going to replace POE anytime soon, but it will be a fun viable alternative. "Gratitude is wine for the soul. People trying out a "new" arpg? How dare they! :P Wait a couple months and see the numbers for wolcen plummet. Not enough content and the exploits in the game has already pretty much ruined every sense of online economy if you plan to "compete" with anyone.
It was fun-ish to play. Somewhere between D3 and Grim Dawn in fun factor for me (grim dawn slightly better). I can't in any shape or form see it compete with PoE in the long run. |

Looks really cheap judging from the gameplay videos.
It's new so obviously there's hype. |

Surprising, seeing how incomplete the early access beta felt.
I for one hope a long and happy life for Wolcen, as long as it motivates other arpg publishers to be at the top of their game. Of course it doesn't hold a candle to PoE but hey, nobody's perfect. Second-class poe gamer

I hope wolcen will beat the fat ass of Poe so devs will wake up and start making poe a proper arpg and not what abomination we have right now.
Less mtx- more quality. Also anyone remembers the shitty release of Poe? Was full of bugs (still is lol). Desync was my best friend. |

I wonder how much higher Wolcen numbers be if it was free.
If 200k ppl are willing to pay $40, and poe being free hits the same numbers, then I'd guess a free Wolcen would hit at least 500k users easy. "Players can now smack around players who are having trouble very early on."
