Can we stop pretending that Path of Exile is free to play?

" It's besides the point. The people arguing the game isn't "F2P" aren't actually arguing that fact. Usually it boils down to a variant of "the game isn't free to hoard" or "the game isn't free to compete in the ladders" Neither of those make the claim that it's "F2P" redundant or obsolete. If you wanna hoard stuff, your gonna have to jump true hoops like i mentioned already or cash in. And if you wanna compete you don't have to, like i already mentioned its entirely possible to be accomplished in the competitive scene without cashing in, it's just a pipe dream of "if only i had stash tabs i would be a top racer" or some stuff. It's just a variant of the usual deflection people do when others accomplish what they do not. As to your personal point, i think it's entirely fair to cash in the game if you spend many hours in it already to make it a more comfortable experience but again this doesn't invalidate the "F2P" claim. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" It's funny because the 1 and only example everyone grasps at in this sort of debate is aila, who literally told on stream that he bought stash tabs because he thought it was no longer possible to compete without them. Yes you read that correctly. The guy that everyone uses to defend the whole "game is playable with 4 default tabs" is telling the complete opposite. Maybe this was true in like.. 2013 when the population, overall content, and competition was a joke. Not in 2020. |
|
" The point wasn't the competition, but that its possible to clear the game with four stash tabs. And i don't need to use him as an example, i did it for three years myself. People use him a lot because he's an extreme example of whats possible with four stash tabs, if you go slower and just enjoy yourself it only becomes easier since you can mule then and get some additional hoard space. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Really? You're the one acting like a child who can't differentiate between needs and wants. Let's be clear about our language here You can access all content in the game without spending a dime -> PoE is absolutely Free to Play You can pay money to get conveniences. This is not Pay to Win it is pay for QoL You need to buy a premium tab in order to utilize the trade API and trade effectively. This is Pay to Win, though I would say the magnitude of Pay to Winness here is pretty small. The degree of conflating QoL with things needed in order to play in this thread is a little disgusting. |

Depends what type of player a person is. At the most casual level POE is free to play where a player can play without ever spending money on it.
Streamers need to put money into the game since they need large stash tabs to make various builds and show features of the game. That top 1% of the player base may be paying to win since winning for them = more subscribers to their channels. |

Not a single new argument has been brought up. This is totally dead-horse level discussion.

POE is pay to win since you cant buy stash tabs with currency from drops
Need more brains, exile?

" Path of exile is completely playable without spending cash, Getting a premium stash for a mere 5usd to sell stuffs will allow you progress 1000% faster in game. The other stashes are not required to win the game, however if I do not have the other stashes, I would quit the game too, which pretty much sums up your opinion, path of exile is indeed not free to play. |
