Can we stop pretending that Path of Exile is free to play?
" Good point. One of my main gripes with the stash tab scheme is not only that it has become way to obvious (to the point it's breaking the fourth wall), but that I would rather have spent the money on skins. Sure, there are people who spend hundreds if not thousands on the game, but I'm sure many people with me has some sort of personal limit. Was planning to buy a skin or 2 this league, but they aren't exactly cheap so after buying some tabs the would-be total put me off for now. Infact, I wouldn't even care a huge deal about refunds, if a change brings less gates and more people playing, for longer periods of time. By the way, I don't really buy that so many feel tabs does not give an advantage. I think it's more about some people not being completely honest about preferring a more niche game, having more of a gated community etc. 'Let the whiners leave, good riddance' - better the Captain goes down with the ship than bend to some 'outsiders'. It can be healthy to do a checkup on the circlejerk every now and then, which I believe was the intent of this thread. |

Some league mechanics are definitely more storage-hungry and burdensome than others. Let's face it, Synthesis was the high-water mark of "need tabs" because of all the fractured items you'd want to hang onto, hoping for a fruitful combo in the synthesizer.
More leagues just add more splints/frags/currencies and this problem won't be solved by simply adding more slots to existing tabs. League designers need to think about stash space management when they design mechanics - only introduce a new currency or frag/item if there's no other way to convey the mechanic into perma league. For instance bestiary. Einhar stores our beasts, keeps track of them, tracks our beastcrafting recipes and area/genus completion, all through the Bestiary UI. You can still trade beasts and it interfaces well with atlas mechanics and other league rewards (scarabs, etc). Can Metamorph be reworked the same way so that Tane becomes a forsaken master, and stores/manages our cloning experiments and tissue samples through a Laboratory Notebook of sorts? Rather than having to dedicate stash space for organs, or buy a specialty premium tab to store organs. Likewise I would imagine Blight could be improved. You store oils with Cassia, you can trade them directly or use them in-situ by placing an amulet in the window and scrolling down or text-searching the name of the notable(s) you want. Oils will then be deducted from your strategic oil reserves. You can also vendor-up low tier oils through the same interface a la the Essences tab. Guild stash tabs also need a major quality-of-play rework. I get why you can't ctrl click or speed bulk move (duping glitch, desync, etc). However, creating, maintaining, and managing them should be much easier and less buggy. [19:36]#Mirror_stacking_clown: try smoke ganja every day for 10 years and do memory game

Whan a new player starts playing poe. He doesnt need any extra tabs to complete main story line. I think until red maps it ok and completely playable.
After that time if he likes the game and wants to go on playing end game he can buy tabs. This is completely fair. If a guys says to you : "I finished tha mian story line, defeated kitava after that I completed most of the maps up to tier 10" Can you say that "No, you did not play poe"? |

I understand what you mean OP..
I've recently started playing again, and my main problem wasn't even the stashes at first.. It was just how ugly everything is (itens and weapons that do not come from the cash shop).. I had come from D3 where(yes its b2p) all the sets looked pretty good, plus the ability to transmog enabled you to (to some degree) "swag up" your character.. But I digress.. What made me first use €€€ on POE was that aspect, but the first things I ended up buying were indeed the stash tabs.. Game feels terrible without them.. It actually wasnt feeling enjoyable to "discard" itens so I could just save new ones.. Especially because when you're new (and I still am), you don't know whats good and whats bad.. So players just usually store everything they think they might use/want later.. Plus there are something that really should be in the "free" aspect of the game.. Guild stash.. Ability to rename the 4 free stashes.. Feels like the devs are too money hungry (and I get it, it's a business after all), but, somethings should have changed as the game evolved.. dont wanna start a big additional discuss but maybe you got it wrong
Do you need Pay to start the Game ? No = Free 2 Play. if you wanna play active endgame etc just do we did back Diablo 2, creat a Mule account and hope other people keep support the Game so YOU can enjoy this nice Game experience. |

It's definitely free to play. There's plenty of games that exist that maintaining limited storage space is an essential part of playing the game.
What you pay for is convenience and mtx. That's it. Even premium tabs aren't essential, because the trade chat exists. Yes, the tabs make things much more convenient, and anyone who plays for a long time will want to buy them eventually. But everything can be done without buying them, and without substantially extending the amount of time to do so. That's free to play. Now stop whining and buy those stash tabs :) |

As always the game is free to play...maybe not follow the meta and be creative.
Those who do not have $ to pay for extra stash tabs and such are hindered, but not limited to end game content. You can create extra mule-accounts for storage and trade between chars. You can learn what you need to keep and what you don't. You can just start a Necro and be done with it all... -Time to be funny. The world needs funny right now! Warning: "Might" get you muted.
25 Exalts...oh God my stupidity stuck! Now onto 25 Divines... |

" Cool logic bro... P.S you can start WoW for free until level 10 or 20 I don't remember exactly with limited functions. Now back to the subject. If in any given point from here to the end of times, GGG will give one free premium tab for everyone to optimize the trading aspect of the game, and raise the cap of currency stacks to 40, then we could agree that everything else you buy is just QoL . They are already giving MTX as league achievements or random events. They could do an event like " New comers Christmas , once per account kill x mob on 24 December to permanently add a premium tab to your account, restricted to one if you don't already have one" , haters can hate after for not receiving something they already own. Before that happening, we can all agree that you need tabs to do trades ( so you don't end up using some 3rd party stuff, or blow your mind between ~b/o tags ) , and at least currency / map tab. Before I had currency / map tab I would have just dropped stuff to keep on having space for maps / currency and at least 1 tab for trading + 1 tab for sets for chaos recipe ( yes I still do the chaos recipe, I don't plan on changing that any soon, because this is how I enjoy building currency). Never invite Vorana, Last To Fall at a beer party. Last edited by Vendetta#0327 on Feb 25, 2020, 12:27:17 AM

" Because WoW actually IS a Pay to Play game. Pay to Win means money gives me advantage compared to non paying players. PoE is neither. |
