what would they lose if there would be a league without death penalty?:
somebody who can explain that?

If a lot of players can make a petition , to add a new rule : "no death penalty" , in private leagues, maybe they can add one .
No wonder you are dying. You have not made much investment into any defences aside primary HP/ES.

Not to mention classes like Gladiator and Juggernaut will mostly disappear from softcore.

90% exp for my lvl 97 gladiator. Immortal class for clean the maps!
I like the death penalty, it made it feel like an accomplishment the one time i actually had the fire inside me to go to 100.

But with that said this game balance is out of control right now. Im playing BY FAR the tankiest character I have ever played with 18k ES capped resists and 33k armour (~79% phys reduction) 75/45 block with rumis up and a metric fuckload of ES regen because Im a mana guardian. I can face tank every Sirus mechanic on awakening level 8 (as i should with my defense stats) but have still got absolutely insta killed on rare occasions on maps with NO damage mods.

I mean this sincerely in the almost 7 years i have been playing the game has never been in a state where im genuinely confused when i die on a character like this...

In short, i do think death penalty should remain, but good lord do I completely understand folks frustrations with the lack of defense balance GGG has created in this game.

3.13 was the pinnacle of PoE. IVYS+1 Gang 4 Life.
Being annoyed or angry at the death penalty is a direct consequence of not knowing WHY and FROM WHAT you died, especially oneshots.

If we had something telling the skills and damage type which killed us in the last 5 seconds, maybe there would be a lot less frustrated people.

Sometimes I can tell what the mistake was, but on high level maps, most of time I get oneshot, I have absolutely no idea why.

hmm besides the fact that there isnt any good gear for my character that isnt in the mirror section i cleared the most content with that build
its just random oneshots that frustrated me so i dont think my character defenses is a problem here ...

HOURS of my Sunday night wasted just because I decided to try Temple Atrizi. Please ease up on the XP death penalty or get rid of it in its entirety.

im sure it was uber atziri but even here its your own fault
i wont run that great content with that amount of exp but there we are again
the question is what did you gain from those deaths?

I'm new to the game so please take my response as that of a noob.

When I was looking for a new game to play I entered in a few different searches on the things I wanted in a game. The biggest thing I wanted was a death penalty that was exp based. Mind you I have played games with good exp death penalties before and games with repair penalties and games with many other penalties or none. Exp based penalties in almost every game that utilizes them makes it so not everyone hours level cap. I 100% support that and wanted that.

That all being said I'm sure that GGG understands that the death penalty isn't for everyone. Some people like it.

On a side note one of the games I played was a a ftp game that had a death penalty, but it had memberships available if different levels. The more you wanted to pay monthly the less you lost on death. I don't particularly like that, but it is a way for the game to lower the death penalty.

i played archlord, cabal, dekaron, black desert online, and all of those no name korean grinders with a harsh death penalty allready
but path of exile in my opinion is the most punishing when it comes to take off your hard earned exp
10%... all the games i've played before took 3% or you lost gear
and those were mostly games that had a certain mechanic to grind so if you ran into hard creeps you died ez as that in poe on the other side you have no control or insight of any stats that show
hey this creep is going to one shot me as soon as he see me
except the map mods that feel like they are mostly a lie they grant almost nothing in exchange of how hard the map can get (bosses on the other side are ez)

Are you serious? No penalty in exp on death? You know what would that provide?

That will make ppl stop concerning about real def layers like dodge/life/es etc. just go full glass cannon and don't give a single F about death. 10% penalty gives some adrenaline when there is much action on screen. For me basically death penalty should go up each lvl 95+ like 15%, 20% etc. Make 100 lvl even more hard!

diablo3 has basically no death penalty so why do people even look for resistances and armour on their gear??
oh well because they dont want to die anyway
i see that argument alot when it comes to that
"if there wont be a death penalty everyone would run a glass cannon" thats literally not an argument because i wouldnt wanna die anyway
also if i would need all 6 portals for a map because i die that wouldnt make fun either
i dont think "everyone would run glass canno" is a legit argument

The death penalty is brilliant because it promotes class diversity. Remove it and enjoy a game dominated by the offensive ascendancies.
