Sorry to hear the bad news OP. TO anyone else who reads this i have one suggestion.
Don't post Gear/Currency on the forums for any reason since this has become a common problem.
I don't think they would randomly pick your account. If they did then they are wasting their lives and you were just unlucky. That being said, have you posted any of your gear/currecy for trade on forums? If so, i would stop. If Hacker are combing through trade forums to find elite gear, high end currency and unique's then i would stop posting since there is no roll back option or anyway to stop this from happening.
It's not worth the risk to post your stuff for trade if there is a possibility they can see all the great stuff you have and make you an easy target.
The game is real easy to level back up but the gear you lost is all pretty hard to come across. If you have rl friends then it could be fairly easy to obtain similar gear (borrow until you find your own). I was hacked in D3 and my brother and other friend helped me gear back up. It wasn't much of a set back. And since i had gamed and leveled a bunch before support replied, i decided not to go with the roll back option as i would be way behind from my group.
This extremely silly. If they could target accounts, why wouldn't the top ladder accounts get hacked, that's where the real currency is.
There is no way to know 100% that your computer is clean, I'm fairly sure mine is for example, but I would be by no means surprised if I found out it wasn't.
So it's silly to change your passwords and stop posting elite gear if you get hacked? Be more specific before you go picking apart other posts. If you are protected then your protected. Simple. Now as far as being able to pin-point a specific account then yea maybe a bit56 "silly". It's a thought, and it's still possible, there is nothing "silly" about being hacked. Listen to your self, you and Drakier are both spamming possible ways it has happened. You both sound "silly" because neither of you know how exactly it happened. It could have happened any way the hacker wants it to happen. They know what they are doing, not you.
I don't know where you got the idea that I said it's silly to change your password, but the idea that posting elite gear will get you targeted is silly. It's not a bit silly, it's absurdly ridiculous, and about as far out there as equating that the hackers got the victims account information by magic. It's on the same level as the d3 session ID hacking bullshit, that was made up, has no basis in reality, and shouldn't be repeated.
So it's silly for us to throw out some ideas on how the victim was hacked, so that maybe he could learn a little something? The only thing I see that's really silly in this thread is anything that comes out of your mouth.
Edit:
To your latest edit - I've seen maybe 20 complaints in the last few days. With the number of active accounts over 2 million now, that's about .001% of the population base. Get with the program, fool.

You quoted my whole post. Like i said be more specific smart ass.
It's simple btw. They find good post's, find the account, hack GGG and find the account information and BAM! Don't be so Naive. Hacking can happen any way you can think of in your silly little mind. There is no limit to hacking.

Lask001 if you knew how it happened then say it, otherwise, your just throwing shit out there just like anyone else here. Fool.
To your Edit.... You are not a Md, or on staff, so you have no information to how many have been hacked and only 20 people who posted, isn't saying anything to the people who had it happened and dont do the forum gig. You lack the information so quit talking like you know how evertything works here.

... This isn't helpful. It's literally worthless and unintelligible. I don't know if you are aware of this, but generally when people talk on forums they try to make points, rather than just saying random things that don't mean anything.

It doesn't work like that. The victims aren't being targeted. That takes too many resources and too much work. It's much easier to compile a list of easy to targets and hit them in an automated fashion.

Ill take your word. You sound a little more informed than the other guy. I don't know how it works otherwise id tell you up front. Im just brainstorming to give the OP some closure if any. But my point is its not out of the question. If someone sees something they really want they will take the time to get it.

That's not how hacking works. I work with computers all day long, and though my current job is not really a security focus, I have been in those positions in the past.
The groups that are so called "hackers" are generally not after elite items, they are after currency. Currency is easy to sell for real money, far more than other items, and it takes almost zero effort to clean an account out. With the way that currency can drop at any level, and in any zone, it doesn't matter which accounts they target.
With this new compromises, it's possible they have changed their strategy and are stealing items now, maybe specific uniques, but I find it unlikely they would start taking rares. Too much time to appraise the value of the item, and it's more challenging to automate it via a bot.

^^ Except that is exactly what they're doing to all these accounts. They're taking their time. It does not smell like an automated job.
They took the time to grab every rare that had any value.

Which is why I am of the belief that your friends aren't really friends. But I obviously can't even come close to proving that.

Automating to strip an account of valuables is super easy. They could even restrict it to specific item names fairly easily if they had the desire to (which they might do).
From what I've seen, currency is their target in most cases, but I have seen 6L and other items being stripped as well.
How do you know they're taking their time? I've only seen a few cases where people basically "watched" their account get stripped, and they were done in minutes.
Hacker gains access, friend's a bot account, invites bot account to group, then basically trades all the crap off as fast as they can.
The other reason they go after currency more than items is because currency takes less inventory space, so you can move more of it quickly. Items are a lot more difficult to account for and take up a lot more space. They're not worth the space to value ratio.
