Hacked account many items stolen.

Then one of a few things could have happened.
ComCast could be lying to you and they can't tell if someone accessed your emailed. Since you probably use POP3, the hackers could have accessed the POP3 and retrieved the item without touching the server copy, or they could have just removed the item they wanted (likely). The other option is that the hackers installed a proxy on your machine, and are using your machine like a VPN in which case the IP generated for the PoE servers would still be your IP and wouldn't trigger a warning. If I were the hackers at this phase of the game, that is what I would do. It completely circumvents the protections in-place unless your IP changes in which case they're locked out anyway. |

" It's also possible that his friends took his stuff - most of the people who report being hacked only have currency taken, at least from what I have seen. |

Sorry to hear the bad news OP. TO anyone else who reads this i have one suggestion.
Don't post Gear/Currency on the forums for any reason since this has become a common problem. I don't think they would randomly pick your account. If they did then they are wasting their lives and you were just unlucky. That being said, have you posted any of your gear/currecy for trade on forums? If so, i would stop. If Hacker are combing through trade forums to find elite gear, high end currency and unique's then i would stop posting since there is no roll back option or anyway to stop this from happening. It's not worth the risk to post your stuff for trade if there is a possibility they can see all the great stuff you have and make you an easy target. The game is real easy to level back up but the gear you lost is all pretty hard to come across. If you have rl friends then it could be fairly easy to obtain similar gear (borrow until you find your own). I was hacked in D3 and my brother and other friend helped me gear back up. It wasn't much of a set back. And since i had gamed and leveled a bunch before support replied, i decided not to go with the roll back option as i would be way behind from my group. EDIT: Also, i would CHANGE ALL YOUR PASSWORDS TO ANY E-MAILS, BANK ACCOUNTS ETC. as i did when i was hacked. I was stupid enough to use the same passowrd even though it was considered "very strong" on all the sites i made them for. I will never use the same password again. Different password for every account i own now. Good Luck buddy. Last edited by cchavoc#2166 on Mar 19, 2013, 1:47:48 PM

I appreciate your replies.
I completely rule out anyone I know. I trust the people who play poe with me. They aren't some internet friends or anything lol I've been gaming online for awhile, and this is the first time i've been hacked. Many years on WoW then D3, never with an authenticator. I spent a good portion of yesterday combing my PC, but found nothing suspect. Aside from a format, i'm not really certain how to be 100% sure that it's NOT my PC... Ah also for the record--i've never posted on these forums until today. Last edited by chockomonkey#0359 on Mar 19, 2013, 1:45:01 PM

" This extremely silly. If they could target accounts, why wouldn't the top ladder accounts get hacked, that's where the real currency is. There is no way to know 100% that your computer is clean, I'm fairly sure mine is for example, but I would be by no means surprised if I found out it wasn't. |

" This. Formatting (if done properly) can give you a little protection for a little while until something finds its way back onto your system. If done improperly, you're only erasing your data and putting it back on, and don't even necessarily get rid of the rootkit or whatever is there. You can never really be 100% safe/secure/confident. That's just the nature of being on the internet these days. Unless you use a crappy terminal system with lynx, you just don't have any way to ensure you're not getting infected. |

" But see, if I hadn't gotten my poe account hacked, i would have said the same thing. This is the only reason i'm questioning the security of my PC. And after lots of poking around i still feel like my PC is okay. So i've come full circle again--does GGG have ANY idea how so many of their accounts are getting violated? I mean, they'd have more info than the rest of us as to where these violations are coming from. -- This just sucks for GGG. I was more than a happy customer. I'm a rabid fan of their game. But due to this nonsense, I can't keep playing. Without knowing the cause, I could waste more of my time and money in this game only to lose it again. With that said, I am in conversations with GGG tech support over email hoping to get more information on what happened and how, and from where. " Yes... They've listed this before.. I'm going to paraphrase this a little, so excuse me if it isn't 100% accurate. Most of the hackings happened because either a user used illegal modification software which contained virii in it (like maphacks, etc). Out of the users who did not do this, the majority seem to be related to password reuse. The users used a password for PoE that was known to other sites and therefore the re-use caused their password security to be extremely weak. I still personally think that there was a watering hole exploit on some PoE site which allowed malware to be installed through a zero-day java exploit or something similar, but that's all still a theory since there is no proof of it. Perhaps PoEEx (which was recently "sold" to a new organization) or something similar had malware (intentionally or unintentionally) on it. |

" So it's silly to change your passwords and stop posting elite gear if you get hacked? Be more specific before you go picking apart other posts. If you are protected then your protected. Simple. Now as far as being able to pin-point a specific account then yea maybe it's a bit "silly", but it's still possible, there is nothing "silly" about being hacked. Listen to your self, you and Drakier are both spamming possible ways it has happened. You both sound "silly" because neither of you know how exactly it happened. It could have happened any way the hacker wants it to happen. They know what they are doing, not you. -- " This alone proves that its not just "computer protection" if so many are being violated. It could be they are hacking GGG and not your computer itself. I mean GGG is a small company with what, 20-30 People on staff. Im sure they dont have top of the line protection for their customers accounts. Dont be so "silly" Lask001. Last edited by cchavoc#2166 on Mar 19, 2013, 3:01:07 PM
