"No Dead Babies" Option, Please

Yes, another one of those "Blood & Gore" topics.

I, too, have had a kid -- in my case a 9 year-old boy -- tell me that the blood & gore was just gross. He also asked why anyone would want that in a game?

I couldn't tell him why because I have absolutely no idea, personally. But I don't get the appeal of slasher horror movies, either, so go figure.

OK, so, we can argue about whether including a blood & gore pref level is worth the time.

But the gratuitous dead baby on the starter beach? Seriously?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us parents the option of not seeing what is the single most upsetting image we can possibly see.

Dead babies == not fun.

Thanks.

Like many of the others, I don't understand why you have an issue with the blood and gore in the game if it's clearly described as a dark fantasy game with a lot of blood and gore.

Do you bring your 9 year-old to gory movies? Probably not, so perhaps your child doesn't have to watch you play the game.

I personally love how dark this game is. In fact, I wish it could be darker. I think I will prefer this game over D3 *because* it's dark and gory, similar to D1 and D2.
So its OK to have DEAD adaults and monsters ?
its a small adault on the beach !
and its ok to kill with FIRE spells? kill with ICE spells
kill with lightening spells?
its ok to have a prision with torture devices ???
the small adault or doll is just laying there with no damage no evidence of any struggle/fight.....
this is a game...a dark game..thats we all playing it

Heh. This reminded me of the game Carmageddon.
ahem, it's supposed to be a "dark adventure", right? Still assume they mean you need to lower your monitor brightness, even diablo 1+2 had more gore as previous posters already mentioned...

Why would the OP play this game with his 9 years old kid? -_-;

Is it a thread about parenting 101?

Personally I don't think young kids should be playing a gory game, if they do add a gore slider then okay... But it was cool the way it creeped me out, dead baby or doll...it's equally disturbing knowing it's a cruel world there too.
If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG.
Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif.

lol at this ^.

It's not looking like this thread is going the way the initial starter was hoping for haha.

[x] default gore level high, pay for disabling it
[ ] no gore by default, make people pay enabling it

So kids still can install the game for free and have a point for their parents spending money on it.

People who play and don't want their kids seeing gore usually can afford some bucks for GGG.

age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
If you are worried about your children seeing this, maybe just don't play it at all, if you can't find a time to be apart from them that is. I suppose it sucks but there are plenty of great games out there that would be more appropriate and it's not up to every part of the world to cater towards you. It's up to you to find the things that work for you. That might mean missing out on some things for now, but that comes with the responsibility of being a parent.

An option is enough, but if it goes against the theme or the artist's idea too much, they should never bend the knee.

Personally, you are hacking at people with swords and axes, the blood and bodies are the effect of those choices. You can't fall so deep into denial of your actions, that hacking at someone's head with an axe is fine as long as you don't see blood or bodies. That is both dangerous, stupid and irresponsible (yes that is three things). You are doing violence, these are the results.

Don't show your kid that you are mercilessly butchering women and men, if you don't want to be asked why....or why is there so much blood.

If your kid asks: "why the blood?", you tell them: "it is because daddy is beating their bloated corpses with a piece of metal heavier than you, violence is often the precursor to that much blood and guts. You see how I'm stabbing this man in the throat and face? The blood and bodies come from the pointy end of this sword."

If I'd ever got a chance to make a game, it would definitively not cater to the players that want the game to change instead of themselves improving in it.
