I have a R5 3600 and 5700 XT too. I managed to get to A1 - The Climb, albeit slowly with quite a few crashes and signal lost black screen issues beforehand, lower fps than I should be getting, and big stutters - especially when the special league monsters were created. However once I got to The Climb, I literally can't even half-clear an instance without it crashing. It can crash at any time for no reason but it does seem to happen most when the league guy Tane or whatever his name is and the totem for monster creation spawns, or when I actually create/spawn the monster. It really hates Kuduku and stutters/lags a ton, but if I remember correctly it only crashed at him one time.
It is truly unplayable, and I'm really let down by this. At this point AMD has gotten the drivers stable enough that I can play other games for hours without issue, usually, but here on PoE I can't make it two minutes. I've had a ton of issues with this card considering I've owned it since it launched in July and help has been hard to come by for most of the issues.. so while it was sad to see 54 pages (in 3 days no less) worth of people having the same issue as I am, it was also a bit comforting in that maybe since there are so many it will actually get fixed somewhat soon. ETA: I don't know if it will help at all but when the game causes my computer to signal lost black screen and become unresponsive to everything, including the driver restart hotkey, if I have a background progress playing sound then eventually the sound for that will go away but the game's music continues to play - theoretically forever until a forced restart. The game and some other things claim my monitor is a 59.96 refresh rate too, but I get crashes on both 60hz and 59hz. I mention this only because I know the card has had issues with refresh rate bugs in the past and maybe still does. Last edited by Ardent1#3543 on Dec 17, 2019, 7:22:44 AM

For guys using Vulkan workaround:
If you find anything that makes the game run faster, or you are facing some issue which you was able to solve (for example game not starting with vulkan but you did something what fix it). Drop me please PM. In case I would be forced to do some guide (GGG releases auto-pickup without fixing the crashes), I would like to have as much information as possible to provide best experience with it. As a bonus, here is what I have so far to reduce the stuttering a bit at cost of slightly longer loading times (non-steam client only so far). Did not have much time to test it, but initial results were promising. 1) apply the workaround 2) create .bat file with following 4 lines in it in the game directory @echo off set DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 set DXVK_ASYNC=1 start PathOfExile.exe --waitforpreload --gc 2 3) launch the game trough the .bat file Last edited by julus#1066 on Dec 17, 2019, 7:27:38 AM

Made it to maps and was having a blast, ran a whole lot of maps, no problems what so ever. Until I ran a Peninsula map. Kinda the same kind of open door environment that was my bane while levelling.
Yep. It crashed again. I'm getting really tired of this shit. GGG, can we please get an update on this? An ETA for a fix? Some sign of life? |

" I don't think they can fix it. I bet they are waiting for AMD to fix this, and keeping silent until they do, but the reality is AMD won't fix this anytime soon. AMD drivers have so many problems right now, i doubt they will fix half of them. |
|
" Well then they should just tell us that. Has no one from GGG ever experienced how annoying it is to not be told why your train/plane etc is delayed. This is the same. Even if they say "This season isn't for you, go play flappy bird" its better than silence. |

After all this I'm probably going to just return the 5700 xt and get an RTX 2070 Super instead....

Purchasing 2070 today or tomorrow and testing on my system with the Ryzen 5 3600 to ensure no more crashes. GGG most likely cannot solve this, and this is why they are absolutely SILENT on the issue.
Cannot believe in 2019 this company isn't testing a MAJOR EXPANSION on AMD Hardware........... IGN: Fluffhead, DownwithDisease, FluffyDabz

Received email on this issue:
Hi there, Thanks for getting back to us. There is currently an issue with crashes related to AMD CPU and GPUs that the team are working to resolve: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1733474 I'm afraid that we are not able to provide a specific estimate as to when this will be resolved, however we apologise for the inconvenience in the meantime! Kind regards, Kieran IGN: Fluffhead, DownwithDisease, FluffyDabz

" The driver crash exists since they went DX11. It happens on AMD and NVidia cards and is very typical for games developed under DX9. When the game is ported to Dx11, something breaks and this is almost always the case when you run a video card outside of stock clock. For years people try to fix that, by underclocking or upvolting their cards, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn´t. Many games have sufferd under it, WOW, ESO, POE, D3 and so on. The issue lies in the games code and API, not so much the drivers of the graphics card, as you can downgrade as much as you want, and the issue remains the same. That´s why running it with Vulkan, fixes the crashes. GGG only has one chance and that is Vulkan, they ignored these crashes for many years now, as only a minor faction of players was affected and they happened randomly, when a specific draw call was made, in my case, at Delves or big explosions. But now that there is something in the animation of Tane, many more are crashing, as it´s content we all play. It´s not a coincidence, that the crash always occurs at the exact same moment, like A2 fields or Ledge A1. If it would be a GPU or driver issue, the crashes would happen at different settings more randomly, but now the common denominator is Tane, who gets summoned in certain maps. AMD or Nvidia can´t fix this, if they could, RDNA wouldn´t suffer so badly, as it´s a new brand for AMD, they would be silly to overtake the error from GCN. You can track it down at google yourself, these errors started with DX11 and only happen in games using that API. Not all GPU´s are affected though, mostly those with an overclock, which might hint to a problem with the cards power consumption, maybe there is a spike caused by DX11, who knows. |
