melee.. melee never changes

I cant wait to play my Raider Bow character

But with the new ancestral support + and glove mods

Maybe melee will actually be decent, with high investment

But not as a league starter

Hi guys. Is melee good yet?

Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Honestly at this point im just bitter at this melee vs range thing. There are obvious pros and cons to both playstyles, ill admit im not knowledgeable enough or "gud" enough to list all of them or present the best points arguing for both playstyles. At this point i just want lightning to strike down ranged players randomly from offscreen and have to walk towards impending salvo of ranged attacks. I also want them to need to point their cursor to a each specific straggler to kill them and chase after them not point a skill in their general direction and not have the ability to clean packs off screen. Lastly i want them to have to blink arrow to the middle of the pack ready to rip their faces off to pop that juicy damage reduction they didnt have before jumping into said pack.

Arguing about damage and survivability is kind of pointless because lets face it people are fcking geniuses and they will pump the damage up to suitable levels. The thing is melee just sucks ass at having to deal with more of poe's bs than range and thats what im very bitter about. Everyone blows up, gud peeps less than shitty players (like myself) but not acknowledging the shitty spot GGG refuses to pull melee out of is just frustrating to me, especially with the coming bow pew pew more damage off screen and more damage totem.

Go figure, with the range and safety of range playstyle and it gets more safety, damage, and off screen pew pew. Bows havent got attention in a LOOOOONG time but wth is this? MORE damage? NO what bows need is something other than ts. It needs a different flavor, not allowing other bow skills to TS and Machine Guns. One guy pointed out the disparity of low - mid range playstyle capability to low - mid melee maybe start with that?

Im just here to complain and vent couldnt take it anymore after i saw the 3.9 bow updates.
Melee definitely has it's problems. It scales scales poorly while leveling, is a bit less safe than range in general, and relies on weapons much more for damage output. That all said, can we stop pretending melee is woefully bad and incapable of doing end game content?

I don't think so. Not unless GGG makes melee as unbalanced as everything else. And if that were to ever happen everybody would start playing bow characters and casters, crying about how melee is so much better than everything.

It's messed up everybody complains about power creep then constantly shits on melee for being perfectly balanced.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.

melee is only good when combined with mobility / movement. i.e. Cyclone, Consecrated Path, Flicker Strike.

Its not even "good" then you're WAY better off killing everything in one shot from off screen with a bow then zipping around inside of packs and randomly falling over.

I think the right choice of words here is: melee only achieves semi relatively fun state when you use those.

Personally I think fliker and conc path are cancer, I can't stand the game randomly moving me when the whole game is already over the top RNG fest. Adding more to it makes it into more of a clicker app than an actual game.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

Allow me to use you as an example:

Somewhere inside GGG HQ there's a guy just like BloodPuddles420 and he's in charge of melee balance... Melee in his mind is "balanced, its all the other shit thats in a bad spot".

Now this is true to some degree or another the problem is down the hall there's some other guy who's in charge of Ranged balance and he's all:

"Lel 3 free totems on top of mirage archer and better weapon bases, and new skill buffs! SWEET!"

As long as these two have no idea what the other intends to do we're going to keep getting Melee nerfed when its already the worst thing to do in the game for EVERY POSSIBLE MECHANICAL SCENARIO (except deep delving as a Jugg with Nebulocs... but RIP that) and Ranged is going to keep being the OP thing that they just keep making more OP.

All of the mechanical marbles are owned by ranged, this update make that EVEN WORSE which frankly is completely predictable, EXCEPT that they ACTIVELY NERFED MELEE AT THE SAME TIME, which was astonishing... Like I still can't believe they did it... or that no one in GGG said "Um hey guys maybe these melee nerfs are a bad idea right now?"

I'm confused, where are these nerfs announced? I can't find them and I'm really curious what's up.

Edit: Never mind, I found it.

so.. it seems i was wrong

it changes. for worse

dear GGG, these 2h changes (aka what made 2h actually usable compared to dual foils) are STUPID.

we already know how a game looks like when 99% of 2h weapons are Disfavour and Starforge. we know it and it sucks. in 3.9 all 23 melee players are going to use one of these (or something from the 'conquerors' if that even HAS a melee weapon worth talking about)

man up, remove melee from the game. like now. you clearly do not want ANYONE to play this archetype. and thats fine. but what you do now is two-faced at best and predatory at worst

you know what is best? ALL 2h rare maces used by top players were summoner statsticks. melee is THIS BAD

and you f.. nerf it more? SERIOUSLY?

to add to that: remaining elder/shaper mods like 15% inc AOE or 6% chance for charge on kill are WORTHLESS. entire itemization pool of these items (shelder weapons) was few good/usable picks and a sea of junk. you can as well remove them from the game - without these noone is going to pick 2h weapon AT ALL and crafting 1h is easier on plain bases so.. what is the point of these bases?

I didn't have issues with the rest of the balance manifesto but nerfing 2h melee weapons was the silliest, most nonsensical thing to do. It's like they just looked at data showing a high % of endgame 2h melee characters using those 7L shaper mods... ignoring all context that this was a tiny % of players overall and those mods were the only thing making the weapons semi-viable.

Big disconnect between whatever their data was showing and how the game actually works/feels on the ground.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.
