D4 officially announced - GGG's next move?
The only reason this could be a contender is because it has the blizzard name on it.
The D4 gameplay video did not impress me much. It looks like they updated d2 character models, added a d3 zone/textures behind it, and made two/three new skills. It honestly seems like open beta PoE. The only good things I saw were the mount and the skills itself, which looked fun. One other thing which could potentially be harming PoE's playerbase is the more social features in D4. But all PoE would have to do is make guild hideouts and more/better guildfunctions, allowing us to be in multiple guilds at once. What in my opinion could really really really harm D4 is the open world with other random players feature(besides itemization). This would result in the same thing as PoE's grouping: one player clears everything screen by screen, while the other is just standing there or tries to follow them. If this is forced, it would kill D4 on day one. As clearing screen by screen is an ARPG thing. Haven't seen much about itemization, gameplay, leveling, or skills(tree). But if it has D3's riftsystem OR D3's skillsystem OR D3's paragon type system OR non-D2/non-PoE-itemization, it will be a major no for me. Standard trading is also a must for me. One of those things is enough for me to say it failed. I also highly disliked the D3 story("I will swing at you with my catapults" + "How did you know to destroy my catapults", master of war tactics lmao), and the yellow monsters: all we did was run around to avoid crap. Them being 'undecided' on skilltrees/trading and such, gives me the impression they do not know what they are doing still. And just made the trailer look as much to D2 as possible just to draw players in. Blizzard also lost alot of good will with me with WoW. Like forced dailies(instead of optional like molten front), no flying, skillpruning, etc. If I will buy D4, and that is a big if, I will do it like half a year or so after it comes out. D3 looked great at first, and in the demo, as well. But we all know how that turned out. Will not be leaving PoE even if D4 is good, unless PoE starts messing up big(stop the meta leagues, it is costing you players GGG). All GGG basically has to do is keep coming with good leagues. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body." Only usable with Ethanol Flasks |

They should condense all the "D4" threads to a single thread and start handing out probations for starting new ones.

So, just read D4's trading will be trade-once for powerful items(they then become bound) and the most powerful items will still be bind-on-pickup. Those fools never learned anything from D3's failure apparently. Permanently not even interested in it anymore.

" Did you see the original gameplay footage of Diablo 3? I'm not optimistic. So I'm not preordering. But if it ends up being fucking awesome, yeah I'll play it after a month or two. |

Looks like they're just trying to remake D2 in the new engine. Hell, they're even bringing all the old classes back. Chances are we're getting Druid, Sorceress, Barbarian (all confirmed), Amazon (cos you need to fill the archer/rogue archetype) and Necromancer (for summoners, no Druid doesn't cut it for satisfying summoners). So that leaves Paladin and Assassin left out in the cold (cos only 5 on launch). What little gameplay they've shown looks ... pretty standard. Meh.
People make a big deal out of the return to the old art style. I don't give a crap about the art style. I want an interesting game, and if all they're gonna do is remake D2 in a new engine then no thanks (I'm not a graphics nut either). D4 needs to actually push the genre forward and introduce new ideas that make for interesting gameplay, not cash in on nostalgia. I don't give a crap about this being a Blizzard game - I'll judge it on its own merits as if it came from some unknown studio, much like PoE. Basically, what we've seen so far actually looks miles behind where PoE is now, let alone 4.0. Better in terms of graphics and likely performance, but way more primitive in terms of concept and mechanics. P.S.: Btw, what makes Lilith so scary? She's the daughter of Mephisto. Sure she (co-)created Sanctuary, but we've already defeated each of the PRIME Evils, then all 3 of them together, then all of them together + Malthael. How's she gonna top that? |

" Technically D3 was never a flop. It made lots of money. Likely D4 will too. And Diablo Immortal. As for the actual gamers feelings on the game ... eh, who cares what they think? *obligatory reference - https://youtu.be/ETxmCCsMoD0 |

D4 is also in early stages, im guessing it will not be released for at least 3+ years, so a lot will change in that time frame.

TL;DR of Quin69 interview of one of two lead designer: (I copy pasted)
-World Bosses -Key Dungeons(new GR system) You do adventures in the world to get a keystone that is for that specific dungeon. It'll have affixes like m+ system and will increase in difficulty. One of the affixes as an example is a lightning pillar that will follow you through the dungeon which will do damage if you're too slow. EDIT: Cap appears to be 40 (difficulty) right now, whatever that actually means. -Legendary items will not be a big everything to 1 skill system to have crazy % modifiers on certain skills. They're building 100's of legendaries atm. -Legendaries will be as strong as OR more powerful than set items. -Tmog is being considered -No official SSF league or mode -Leaderboards atm are more aimed towards specific activities similar to conquests rather than pure GR pushing. -No AH, various types of items in terms of tradability. Strongest items being BoP, some that can be traded a single time before soulbound, and others like crafting mats that will be tradable regardless. But being worked on so could/probably will change. -Crafting will be a thing, most end game will be item modification for crafting but won't be too similar to poe as diablo is more about slaying mobs. -Seasons will be a thing and will adapt and change the most powerful legendaries each season so the metagame will shift. -Plans to adjust mechanics to shift metagame too and will be producing patches and expansions to also deal with this. -Skills are base skills and the rune equivalents from D3 will be modified via items. As you lvl up you can add points to skills which will make them more powerful. Cannot currently respec skills, but can do content to get more skill points through the game. -Base game purchase, with expansions later on. There will be MTX for cosmetics -No plans for hideouts(PoE) currently -No plans for addons, likely no damage meters but game will come with everything you need to play the game. -Ability to change keybinds and move skills where you want (WOW REALLY WE CAN BIND SKILLS NO WAY) Looks literally like D3 but with D2 elements. Looks like complete garbage to me. Especially since they know PoE exist. I guess i'll stick to PoE for a looooong time. Oh wait, D4 will be out in maybe 2 years if we are lucky :^) |

PoE may have the features but D4 is looking to crush PoE on the fun factor I mean 9 or 10 player (maybe more) random raid boss encounters? Poe has a hard time handling 1 player. Watch the Bluddshed D4 gameplay. Insane.
