D4 officially announced - GGG's next move?

There's people live streaming D4 gameplay right now from Blizcon and it looks kinda meh. At least with what they have ready so far, it barely looks like an upgrade over D3.

D4 will be competitive the second it gets released, don't be silly, lol

only by the type of people who still think Star Wars is good, lol
if D4 has a more thoughtful gameplay where I m not winning with my eyes closed pressing 1 fucking button the whole time I am already sold and will be playing over unbalanced laggy shooter simulator like Poe has become

There's NOTHING in the released trailers that hints towards a different game than Diablo 3.

- Will they adapt the totally braindead skill system of D3?
- Will they still forget about a skill tree?
- Will they still be hellbent on making the game all about boring, stat-stacking legendary/set items?
- Will they still make a game without any "hard choices" for your "build"? (If the actually manage to make "builds" this time around)

These are the important questions.

its got a similar skill system by the look of it.

it is kind of braindead... sort of... but honestly d3s rune system results in skills having more real options than poes gem system in practice. I have reave, so how can i make reeve feel different in poe? lets be honest, theres very little u can do, reave is always reave. in d3 theres 6 runes and they make the skills feel actually different. so poe is more complex, but ur a tornado shot build, ur basically gmp tornado and the entire screen dies and despite there being 500 billion different support gems it always feels exactly the same so its all just theoretical jerkoff and has no actual impact in most cases. so im not too worried about that aspect.

from the sounds of it a lot of the ideas of changing how a skill works with supports will be done with items. theyre saying no more of this 3000% damage with X skill but instead the items will have something that alters how the skill works, like maybe it pulls enemies in on strike or it chains or removes a cooldown and adds a mana cost etc?

theres skill trees, and they look pretty tame. quinn69 is currently playing it and hes just described the skill tree as "casual" lol. it looks like theres stuff, theres passives and u could probably get like 10-20 different 'builds' from it, but compared to poe its... yeah, its fisherprice my first plastic lunchbox bullshit from what weve seen.

so no more 3000% damage stuffs on items, and they dont want sets to be bis, they say ull upgrade out of sets and legendaries will be as powerful or more so than sets. sets will be more oif something that helps you get into the theme of a build when u get to endgame and then you outgrow it.

this is what ive gathered so far.

D4 maps Design seems much better! Poe has Just small map layouts Which makes it boring fast to play these. And Content like World bosses i assume wont be in 4.0
I hope ggg can be up to Date, only the fact of all the performance issues since beta Doesnt make me believe it really..
Main game designer of Diablo IV is the same person who was/is main game designer of Diablo III. Because of this i expect absolutely nothing from D4.

I don't think GGG need to make any moves because of D4. What they need to do is to address core game issues of PoE and introduce us fundamental rework of existing one-shot playstyle in 4.0.
retired from forum because of censorship and discrimination
(also poe2 bad)
the lead dev of diablo 3 doesnt even work at blizz anymore

Diablo 4 will still garner lots of player base regardless if the end game turn out to be good. It has nothing to do with Bizzard but just the game title alone.

The only thing Blizzard does to it is to give D4 the glamorous graphics and smooth gameplay. Especially smooth gameplay. This is an area that GGG till today is lacking.

E.g. Why does the game remember my last action that I have clicked a portal scroll and will not go another way till my character picks it up? Shouldn't the game react to how my mouse cursor move? Every so often, I find my character moving to pick up something because my mouse has accidentally click on it and there is no way to cancel this action.

Nevertheless, GGG has to really deliver something in Exilecon that will at least keep a base pool of players while Blizzard gets the big bulk (likely) of ARPG players when D4 launches. And as many other players have pointed out, POE now feels like an arcade shooting game. Things really need to slow down a little.

POE has to go for the long tail to stay relevant when competing against Blizzard.

At this point, D4 reveals give me the Lost Ark vibe and it looks like the game has only 1 year of development work pumped into it. Maybe D4 was never part of Blizzard plan till Blizzard got a big backslash after announcing D-Immortal.
POE has another 9-12 or so expansions/moves before D4 comes out.....
That's quite alot of content.

How was D3 a flop? It was a commercial success with well over 20 millions copies sold, it may not be a great game but it sure wasn't a flop.
