D4 officially announced - GGG's next move?

Honestly, its on Blizzard to show us they can make an ARPG again. I gotta see more then a panel and some trailer/gameplay. I can't really be hyped about this until I see it in action. D3 did eventually get better but it still lacked in many areas.

That being said, I do hope that D4 is very successful. Healthy competition may push this game even further. May force GGG to rethink parts of their game even if it does make a big dent.

To answer the OP's question.. well it's on the front page. We'll see in two weeks what the answer is.

D3 absolutely did not live up to expectations, but it was by no means a total flop either. I'd never say D3 was a better game overall then POE, and D4 isn't guaranteed to be better either..... but I would'nt dismiss it out of hand either. Blizzard's Track Record, while no longer the absolute immaculate perfection it once claimed in the Diablo 1-2, Warcraft 1-3, World of Warcraft, Starcraft days, is still pretty damn good. It's not something GGG can afford to ignore or rest on laurels against.

Looks interesting. As others have said we need to wait and see everything in the game.

I hope fallout 76’s micro transaction fiasco (among others) will remind them to put gameplay and quality first over stuffing in as many paid things as possible.

I will say I am much happier with the art direction in this one so far.

Chris said no new engine for 4.0 so.. RIP PoE you know it's going to run like shit and collapse under it's own weight unless you are running hardware released within 3 months of the 4.0 release.

Was fun while it lasted. So hyped for D4.

I mean I'm hyped for Exilecon as well but I mean... yeah it's not even GGG that should be nervous it's Tencent. Chris has his $$$ he can just go forth and work on a new game.

There's NOTHING in the released trailers that hints towards a different game than Diablo 3.

- Will they adapt the totally braindead skill system of D3?
- Will they still forget about a skill tree?
- Will they still be hellbent on making the game all about boring, stat-stacking legendary/set items?
- Will they still make a game without any "hard choices" for your "build"? (If the actually manage to make "builds" this time around)

These are the important questions.

D4 looks great but it also looks very casual, so I doubt it will kill PoE

no game is non "casual" these days.

So far I think Chris can breathe a sigh of relief. It's Diablo 3 with desaturated colors and runewords. Looks like they haven't been developing this for more than a year or so. It would be funny if they started work on it as a panic response to last year's Blizzcon.

Blizzard could have come to Blizzcon with a spectacular Diablo IV that was 6 months away from open beta and wiped GGG off the map entirely. Right now it looks to be about 2 years away from being ready for release.

Absolutely anything can happen at this point. Diablo IV is guaranteed to soak a huge portion of the market even if it's bad so GGG is going to have to bring it either way.
