Joe Shely. He introduced himself as lead game designer both for D3 and D4.

did you notice in that link that he didnt even start working on diablo 3 until after it was released?

jay wilson was the head guy for diablo 3, and the senior game designer under him was wyatt cheng. Jay wilson then left blizzard and went to live in a cave where arpg fans couldnt throw socks full of shit at him all day and josh mosqueria took over as the guy in the hotseat for the reaper of souls expansion. Then mosqueria left blizzard and wyatt cheng went off to do diablo immortal. From the looks of things this joe shelly character worked under mosqueria on reaper of souls.

if the game was on our pcs being played before he even started working on it though its safe to say it wasnt really his fault i think. The people responsible for d3 were chased to the hills and other people replaced them, and then those people were mostly replaced so youll have people who are technically in senior positions in the diablo 3 team who essentially had no control at all of the direction the game took, theyre just inheriting the disaster and caretaking its slow death, seeing what they can learn for the next diablo game.

He wasn't the initial author of D3 but his only job ever was supporting that game. His vision of gameplay is influenced with this experience, and this is confirmed by the answers he gave to Quin69 - a lot of D4 systems would be based on D3. We'll see D4 in a few years, but i expect more from PoE 4.0 - GGG already have working game while Blizzard have only technical engine and concept so far.

I gotta say, it looks like a serious contender. Do you guys think 4.0 will match it, if the Blizz devs commit to going back to the roots of Diablo, game mechanics included?

PS: Blizz also mentioned trading and interacting with players in town hubs.

Your "serious contender" is at least 2 years away so.........

I'm just bothered by this "large world" nonsense. All that means is more travel time between encounters. That would kill a ARPG. Having to mount up and ride to the next group of monsters is really silly.

There are still waypoints and town portals.

And don't even get me started in how we "travel" in the PoE meta.

Shagsbeard, i believe its because they dont want to make an arpg, but an mmoarpg, from which all of them featured simmilar things, so that they could sell their mounts in cash shop, its a feature of predatory f2p games in past, and blizzard adopted it. They also have to fit 100 players in big space, and not cramp them in small spaces like in d3, since the focus will be on party play and world events. They said it themselves in interview.

Now to my original post, I find it funny how on poe forums and poe reddit majority defends d4, while on diablo reddit frontpage is full of threads where everyone asks for devs to change things and voice negative opinions on what was shown.

Some of my mobile games atm have more depth than d4, which i find a sad development. I will continue to wait for something really worth the 60$ on release, until then I will have fun reading all the posts on reddit and forum.

I'd love to say that I had hopes for d4, but i didn't, its blizzactivision.

You're crazy if you think that it will be priced at $60. There might be a $60 version, but the full version isn't coming out under $200.
We NEED a PoE mobile! PLEASE??

Listen we get it edgelord. You hate Diablo and Blizzard and think D4 is trash.

You have been posting insane amounts saying the same thing.

WE GET IT.

Someone must be butthurt and goes ad hominem at me facing lack of arguments, well good for you, since im a blizzard fanboy (15k hours in d3, and wont even mention other games since its even more).

If you dont like what I write don't read it or disprove it using arguments without going all salty down on me.

I didn't know since when is criticism supported by facts taken from interviews with developers hating on something.

Someone else must be an edgelord here.
