Yes and I dont think its an accident gen 3 started sucking hardcore after TENCENT purchase with major tedium (think unveiling millions of worthless items so you can craft) to majorly pimping the mystery boxes. Game got monetized to the max to try and hook you longer and for more but some of us can see though the bulshit and stopped paying

Soma is literally the reason why people only live to 61 in a brave new world, it's a slow acting poison that grants bliss which is why i compare it to heroine. My estimation is that we are inside brave new world currently and working our way towards the capability of 1984, obviously not exactly as described but we can see a lot of parallels.
Heroine could easily be seen as a "botched soma" with the contrast of brave new world on it.

Heroine != Heroin
ok this should be helpful. don't talk about it. there is no need to, not on here anyway.

It's very fascinating in combination with current day technology and developments.

needed to look up that one, but heard of it years ago. And exactly like this. The Prison system failed hard. Only this time the fallout is not limited to a small system.

Except that in western city's that did that experiment, people stop the assailants quite regularly during the test.
While in the China version, they literally repeated the experiment 46 times and only once was it stopped by a random "hero". Everybody else totally ignored it and didn't want anything to do with it.

Source please. Not for the chinese one. But for the western cities.

Have ever talked with an heroin addict when he off? The main problem of heroin is not the shortened livespan, but what it does to the user. Soma is an "idea" drug which Huxley uses to show that any kind of discomfort in his world can and will be ignored as is expected by all that live in it.

We won't reach the level of both book in any way, it the same on the other side too. We will never reach any utopian fantasy system either. But 1984 is especially unrealistic, not because of its ridiculous observation capabilities but the impossible control of information as well as an external enemy. Maybe my thinking would be different if i lived in another country through.

As far as the social expectations etc, well that one is proven to be tricky since women specifically are going insane with the new tech developments.
(look up self harm of teens since 2006 if im not mistaken, the first generation that had full access to social platforms pre-teen)

Turns out that managing expectations when everybody is comparing himself with the "best" the world has to offer instead of the neighbourhood is proving dangerous and harmfull no to mention the tools utilized to fake certain things like pictures etc.
Entirelly destructive for young girls who are very socially oriented.

Well i would allow any child under 18 the use of social media anyway, but I'm kind of old and never had any of this to begin with. Maybe we have the luck that insane beauty expectations will be target of the next great outrage, even if that seldom does anything.

Both books are fascinating in my opinion and make errors, but i think both demonstrate the urge for utopian thinking within humans and demonstrate parts of human nature and how that nature can be "taken for a ride".

This post became longer then i intended and went all over the place, apologies.

As i said, i read many of these books and blairs always lacked thought in his dystopian system. Looking back at time is was written as well as the authors love (or better yet, interest) for the live of the losers and homeless in the new national states it feels more like the portrayal of the man on the street in his own time enhanced by an out of proportion evil system. But hey, that's just my opinion :)

And no apologies needed.

Just do a youtube search for "social experiment violence and abuse" which has a whole litany of them.

China scores incredibly poor in this field compared to other country's.

Off-topic but sort of interesting, when a man abuses a women in public, random strangers intervened 7 times in 1hour and a half i think this was done in londen.

When a women abuses a man in public, random strangers intervened 1 time in that same time period.

In the china one, they kept on going untill somebody intervened, but i don't remember the time frame for that experiment, they relocated a lot of times.

I don't think there is anything surprising about this though, generally people in western country's believe the police force is a force for good so they can intervene and expect the police to be on the side of justice when they appear.
In china however, depending on who the person is the police can be bought so if you intervene in the wrong situation you can be held accountable for doing the right thing.
Game theory makes it beneficiary to simply ignore the situation at the fear of personal cost.

I don't think people in western country's make this calculation at all, they just need to get over the hurdle of actually speaking up which in itself is already a difficult thing to do.

im pretty sure theres already a thread about it in off-topic anyway so if you want to add something to it, go for it.

i don't advice talking about it on general chat while in game though. you've signed a terms of service. maybe give that a read.
though i don't advice talking on general chat at all

nobody reads ToS, and they are subject of change. Did you read ToS? Of course you did not...

what would you like to say?

you know what i think is funny. when all these conservatives and people scream about censorship. "wah wah i even got banned from my BANK for what i post on TWITTER! oh noooooes"

is that bad? yeah ok sure. but why do people like this feel the need to scream their politics and opinions at other groups of people over twitter, or general chat in a fucking video game, or even on these forums?
and if you do really feel the need to do it, then why are you surprised if other people don't like it and take it down?

stop feeling the need to express every single one of your opinions and political views on medias like this and you won't have a problem.
stop posting all your words and views on twitter and facebook cause of "mah free speech". if you do it just because you can, you're the dick.

I know right! Those conservatives are always injecting their opinions and ideology into everything! They are so bigoted and racist for not toeing the Cirtical Theory line. I mean it is *current year*! Right?

You sound like one of my high school students that thinks Tumblr is a source of good information.

A little study of history will reveal what a delightful anomoly true free speech has been. What a powerful tool of oppression the censorship of free speech can be. How easily social progress can be halted by limiting the free flow of ideas and opinions.

New Zealand was one of the first places on the planet to allow women to study or hold political office. They have been leaders in environmental protection laws and other areas of 'social progress' for over a century: http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/CU1809/S00279/new-zealand-places-10th-in-the-world-in-social-progress.htm

I can't imagine these advances for humanity were won with the 'their game, their rules' mentality, even though it is understandable.

here is the point - nobody is saying you can't talk or hold an opinion about this subject matter. you just can't do it here.
and my question is, why would you want to do it here anyway? who would you be preaching to? lol

guess what? if you come to my house, you damn sure couldn't say anything you wanted to either. right now you're in GGGs house. this is not a hard concept to grasp. it has nothing to do with free speech, it has to do with manners and consideration.

imagine if there was no off-topic at all. everyone just had to stay on topic on this forum which is the game. i'd actually enjoy that, cause then we'd blow away any discussions like this.

Man, you are so right about this!hopefully everyone can do more thinking than talking.
