This doesn't work on Windows 8. Trying to change the video card in display settings results in access denied error.

Mine seems to be working properly now. It may be the new fix (got another tiny update in steam) or it was for putting my dedicated graphic cards running as the default one.

Ok this worked but why did I have to do all this when it worked fine beforehand?!

Hey, doing a clean install of nvidia geforce experience via the drivers allowed me to change the system to force the video card use via nvidia control panel. Problem solved. So if you have this issue with a nvidia card try that as a fix, worked for me.

I had the same issue whole morning, I have a nvidia geforce 1050 here too.
In the nvidia 3d settings, there are 2 lines for poe :
- Path of Exile (pathofexilesteam.exe)
- c:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\path of exile\pathofexile_x64steam.exe

Make sure you force both to use your high performance graphic card, that did the trick for me.
I am pretty sure it was using the wrong graphic card until I did this because I would only not get a pixelated image by lowering target framerate below 20/30.

Thanks man! Been playing at 800x600 with that integrated video card and it wasn't fun at all :)
