Path of Exile and p2w

So there have been a few posts talking about mystery boxes, p2w and etc and I think people are confused about something.

What is p2w? (aka pay 2 win) p2w used to simply mean spend money and you win, but not is is more complicated than that. The modern p2w definition is more like "The ability to purchase an advantage" even if it a small or negligible advantage.

Hypothesis: Path of Exile is p2w.

Experiment: Play an entire league of Path of Exile with ONLY the 4 starting tabs. I did this back in breach league and let me tell you, IT WAS AWFUL. I made a second account and played the entire league on it, I had to find a balance between saving my currency and maps those items alone take up most your storage. It ended up being like Diablo 2 but instead of an inventory full of talismans that help me it was currencies and etc. It was entirely possible to play the game but it was SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE then my account with 20+ tabs.

Conclusion: You can play Path of Exile without buying tabs but it is without a doubt significantly easier (and arguably more fun) with tabs, how do you get tabs? You spend real life money, Path of Exile is pay 2 win.

Side note: P2W is not a synonym for "bad game" it is more like a "genre" than anything in my opinion. I love Path of Exile and I have supported this game for a long time and I probably will for a long time more, but to deny the clear p2w advantages of stash tabs is a bit silly to me.

At this point in time I don't think you can play without buying tabs.

Back in Beta and early 1.x-2.x sure. Heck I was playing with 4 tabs for almost 4 years, in Standard for f* sake.
Torture, but doable.

Now there's just so much crap it's hard to finish a League without a couple extra, quad or specialized tabs.
And if you like to hoard stuff in Standard like I do, go get your credit card.

Anyhow. Stash tabs are one-time purchases that don't give you more power the more you have. A quad-tab costs next to nothing and is more or less all you need to not complain about advantages. The "principle-riders" may complain all they want, but PoE will always be F2P.

This thread is pay 2 win.

@Phrazz, "F2P" isn't a good thing. It's a collective term for just about every piece of player-wallet-milking crap in the game market today.
And it's everywhere.

Stash tabs are pay to win because you can't become a trade tycoon without them.

What exactly did you "win" when you switched to account with a lot of stash tabs?

Your conclusion is wrong. Correct one will be "Path of Exile is pay 2 convenience".

We aren't confused about this at all. You just happen to be the only person who actually cares to make this distinction. Everyone else does not give a flying F whether or not f2p/p2w are mutually exclusive because quite frankly, it misses the entire point.
