Scammed out of 16.3 Exalted Orbs. I feel sick. This has ruined my day.

OP here.

Tldr: The mistake was made by the player by clicking accept. But it's GGG's game and they can do anything they want in it including checking logs and reverting scam based trades if they wanted to, but they don't. They lose more financial support because of this decision than is saved by staying out of it.

I just want to clarify some things.

I never expected to get any items back, that is the precedent that exists at the moment. I maybe thought the scammer could get a tick on their account and if enough people report them maybe they would get banned? Not sure if GGG keeps track of which accounts seem to get a lot of people reporting them or not but I think they do?

But I wanted to try and convince GGG that it is in their company's financial interests to re examine how they view these issues. At the end of the day they are a business trying to make a profit. I love that they are good people and make a beautiful product, but they need to draw a profit in order to exist and thrive. Their profit model is based around people essentially donating them money in support of their product. I did not purchase the supporter packs because I wanted my spells to look different (although that is appreciated). I purchased them because I was using my money to vote for GGG's success so the game that I love can continue to exist and grow and the people making it can be rewarded.

Now I know that GGG has systems in place to check chat logs for racist comments and abuse and stuff so they probably have the messages sent between myself and the scammer. There were very few messages as the scammer never actually messaged me... But there is a message to him saying I want to buy his doctor card for 16.3 EX. No message is sent regarding wanting to purchase anything else, especially the worthless card he traded me.

I also am aware that GGG keeps track of certain trades to catch RMT stuff. So if a bunch of exalted orbs is traded to someone for nothing, or a worthless item, then that trade might be logged somewhere as suspicious? I am assuming a 16.3 EX trade for this worthless card would be flagged as a suspicious trade. So assuming that GGG has the evidence that I intended to trade this person for his doctor card, and the trade actually was for some worthless card. They might have all the evidence raw and true from their own records available to them? They would be able to tell that this was a mistake and the intent was not to do this trade. They could then just swap back the items?

I know that this is not how the game works in its current state. But I am saying that this is how many other games do work (WoW for example). Perhaps PoE has gotten big enough that they could have some staff member looking into these expensive trade errors (10 EX+ perhaps) and trying to see if there is a clear cut mistake made which they could fix? Once something like this is in place someone could be fixing these in less than 5 minutes. And this would mean instead of one of their players (who has given them hundreds of dollars in support) walking away feeling betrayed by GGG for deciding not to allocate some resources to fix these trade scams (and never buy another supporter pack again), would feel even more love for GGG for fixing the trade scam (and feel good about buying more supporter packs over the many years to come).

People making these large 10+ EX trades are probably buying lots of these supporter packs... They almost certainly won't make this mistake twice. The 5 minutes to fix it (if the logs and first hand evidence is strong and clear cut) will mean the difference between $0 future profit from that player and potentially hundreds of dollars. Currently the system favors the scammer. You might make some profit off them buying some supporter packs. But for every scammer there could be 10, 20, 30? of their victims who decide they won't be buying any more supporter packs.

Side note:

So many people seem to be okay with this happening which is odd to me... Sure you need to mouse over the item and click accept... but scammers are crafty people. What should matter is what was intended to be traded between the partys.

I feel like a real life example or how GGG looks at these issues is like this: Your grandmother (the player) get scammed for thousands of dollars from some con artist. The police (GGG) tell her it's her fault and they wont arrest the con artist (even with lot's of evidence) because she is at fault and should have been more careful. Imagine if that is how the world was...

The truth is that they probably lose less money this way than paying a whole team handling this.
not gona read that wall of text whine , it was your own fault gettin scammed , making a huge deal of some pixels and making it look like its the End of Days is ridiculous , its just a video game , deal with it and move on with your life ...

haha yeah. also if the grandmother warns her friends about this con artist (with evidence) she will be censored on her social media, have her means of communications shut down at any point (phone/internet) while still risking long prison time depending on the situation and the number of times that she tried to warn her friends :P

Dude, it's your only fault to get scammed. Don't blame GGG or the trade system because you have to hover your mouse over the item you want to complete the transaction.

Heck, the guy scammed you with the oldest trick in the world.
The dude changes the item (HUGE RED FLAGS) and you accept it anyways, bravo.

You deserve it, tbqh.
That happens because when see the seller accepted u kinda feel like u need to hurry to complete the trade to not make him wait longer

They need to increase the trade cooldown from 3 secs to 10 secs and then u will have enought time to put ur currency and ckech the item for a few secs without feeling like u need to hurry
If I dont reply to you - I dont give a flying duck about your opinion

If you dont reply to me - I dont care either because I dont come back to see who replied to me
Sorry that you have become the victim of a scammer and GGG's poor trading system.
Hope you don't completely give up on this game. It may have it's glaring faults, but it does some things nicely.
GGG's inaction and negligence is borderline criminal.

You should sue GGG for damages totalling 16.3 exalts + doctors fees (since they caused your cancer). Everyone knows GGG is at fault, so its a guaranteed win.
Plot twist:

What if the OP was selling 16.3 ex for real money and is now trying to cover his tracks?!

.. sorry for your loss.

That would kind of explain all these posts we get. If one of the RMT sites advises their suppliers to go to the forums and complain they've been scammed, we would see a number of these posts over and over from people following that instruction. A bit too tin-foily for me, but plausible.

I do wonder why we keep seeing these types of posts. They have to serve some kind of purpose, other than to make the OP look like a mark.

plottwist if GGG believes this hypothesis.

- Now you do not only lose your in game currency by being scammed. Now you also get banned.
