Ending the Speed Meta, or Redefining Chris Wilson's "better builds are faster"

Ok, I would like to point out that your suggestions for "incentivizing" slower gameplay are all about punishing faster gameplay instead. This may be a hint at a larger problem with you suggestion or ideals.

It is a simple concept: kill more stuff = get more loot. This means that the faster you kill, the faster you gain loot and progress. This has always been the case in this genre (and all other genres that include some kind of randomized loot, for that matter) and is not new to PoE.

Honestly, zoom zoom clear meta was inevitable. Over time people became naturally better at the game (read: faster), and started running into more and more stuff that arbitrarily slowed them down, such as reflect rares (some such mechanics still exist, think of immunity phases, proximity shields, porcupines). At some point killing rare opponents became so fast that it was no longer feasible to assess the mods it has and thus being slowed down in such a manner became obnoxious and annoying, both things that shouldn't be attributed to gameplay. So, naturally over time these kind of slow down mechanics were removed to make for a better game. And in my honest opinion, the game is better than it's ever been.

At the end of the day this is not a tactical RPG. It's an action RPG. I'm all for incentivizing different playstyles but doing so by punishing the preferred playstyle in a game of this genre is not something I can get behind.

you can take the view that speed meta is the underlying truth of ARPGs and it probably is but power creep isn't which is primarily what people actually have a problem with.

The faster we go and the higher our damage the less defense is required, its a feedback loop. I'm definitely gonna go back to HC next league I think but i'm genuinely hoping 4.0 has a full rebalance with some vision behind how powerful they actually want us to be.

If I am level 90+ with like 10ex+ of gear I want to be a god. You have people with 50ex+ without HH ofc that are doing crazy speeds, and that's fine.

HC is fine if you don't mind being randomly 1shot one day by a league mechanic. To me that's enough to halt progress, even on SC.

The whole point is to become a God, maybe that happens too quickly but it beats dragging everything down to satisfy a few people who basically want the same reward for less input.

People have builds and item synergy down to an art, that art should always be rewarded. The hours and currency you put in has to reach a climax especially with leagues otherwise you might as well just play standard.

As a game evolves the players do, they are being rewarded for being faster. Slower people don't want this because they can't keep up and want artificial blocks/mechanics to drag those ahead back to their level.

ITS AN ACTION RPG. You will get to the point where you zoom and one shot everything. Go play a more slowed strategic genre and stop trying to ruin it for everyone else. LEAGUES is the "slow down mechanic" you become a God then you're brought back down to a peasant, that's more than enough.

without even reading this bible Thing, no thank you id rather go fast
My stance isn't something i want to dig in this time. But if you advocate for the "Need for speed", you should be banned if you ever cry about one-shots and melee sucking or should i say non-existent, because it is. Having AOE that covers the entire screen doesn't count as melee.

Slow game= tactical play and balance.
Fast game= oneshots, range and chaos.

GGG went with the second, and you are a FOOL if you think it will even change. And yes, im anti "Crear speed" but i realized i will have to deal with it. And i do.

The game got the community it deserves, community based on decisions and changes GGG made. It will only go forward for better or worse. It will never go backward, the majority in PoE today aren't here because was slow, they are here because it got fast. If it remained slow, it would still be successful but it would have completely different player base. It's foolish to suggest change of pace at this point, the people are neither ready, nor willing and that's understandable.

That's why a company makes a decision when they start, a decision for design path that determines the types of players it wants. GGG made theirs, going 180 will kill the game.

"Point #3: GGG has failed in incentivizing slower builds."

Excuse me, what? You cant fail at something you never started doing.
Slow players are rewarded enough already. Don't you know how many mirrors are waiting for you in the chests and barrels?

Dude, I just pulled an Inspired Learning out of a barrel a couple days ago. Not quite a mirror, but that's pretty up there.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.
You can't incentivize slower paced gameplay. It depends on the player, it's a personal playstyle. Some players like it slow (ProjectPT) and some players like it super fast.

It'll never happen.

would be nice to have a slower paced game in general ; so the engine doesn't shit the bed everytime there's density.

or a new engine that can actually take it...

anything to stop choppiness in high density..... in a ~7 years old game ....

every single part of my pc is younger than the game itself but i still can't go nuts in high density without things getting choppy ;)
